Default Should we care about the past?

I wasnt sure whether to put this in serious debates, but I reliased its not really THAT serious. Its just a discussion.

Do you think we should dwell on the past?

You hear people all the time talking about 'the good old days'
Whether it be Saturday night TV, forums, friends, Big Brother anything, and a lot of people let it stop them from having fun because they spend to much time worrying about what theyre group of friends was like before, or the 'good old days' when BB housemates werent fame hungry wannabes (their words, not mine)

How do you look upon things? As a fresh start, or do you compare to the 'good old days'?

LOL- random!

The past is the past. It's tough to forget it for one reason or another but change is always going to happen. I used to dwell big time on the past but recently I have realised that it's not worth missing whats been but often it's good to look forward to what might be. So, lol, I'm saying now I like to look at a fresh start.

people will always relate back to the past, its just human nature for things that were. an example is big brother. people want the old days to return, but put the old days as bb5, bb7 etc. however when they were on, a lot of people calling out for the return of the old days didn't actually like the series when it was on and had to reflect afterwards to think "yeah, that was a pretty damn good series". then when bb is axed, if it ever returns in the future then a format change, new location and new presenter will be inevitable. it wont be without its critics and people will want the old format back with davina, the old house at elstree etc.

i think its good to remember the past because every small thing that has happened makes us and the world we live in as we are now but i dont think its healthy to dwell on the past. we should live for the moment.

Sometimes I think it's good for people to reflect on the past and not forget previous experiences. I'm the complete opposite though - I'm always living in the moment, and just going with the flow. I look forward to the future, and how I can better it and change things rather than comparing it to the past. Often I think I'm pessimistic about little things, but when it comes to the bigger picture I'm quite optimistic, possibly naively so.

You can't turn back time, so the past is the past. No point in regrets cos that can't change now.

However, I think it's healthy to experience nostalgia and reminisce as it puts life in perspective and shows how short it is, and a good framework for "making memories" in the future.

I ALWAYS reflect on my past because it was the best time of my life.
Just enjoying life and not having to worry about anything.
I miss the days when S Club were at their peak, Pokemon was cool and all the old Nickelodeon shows were popular.
Great times.

I think remembering the past is a good thing as we can learn from mistakes and remember the good times but that's it really. It's never good to obssess over the past.

I personally never really think much about the past unless i'm being nostalgic or something, I perfer to charge on ahead really then to look back.

When I dwell on the past I think to myself, "In ten years time I'll probably think that these were the good old days". You need to seize the day and make the most of the present. That makes the past worth dwelling over.

We should look upon the past with fondness. But there's not point having regrets because we can't do anything about it and everything does happen for a reason! The present is the only actual time, the past has gone, the future may never happen,so we should enjoy now!

It's hard not to think about the past and how things have changed. Would I like to not think about the past and how things used to be so much better? Yes; however, you can't do anything about any of the changes that have happened, so think about today and the changes that you could make tomorrow. You shouldn't live life with a million regrets, since it blocks your focus on the present.

I like to remember past experiences in my life as they have shaped me into the person I am today. They have made me realise the mistakes I have made and learn from them. I am keen to try new things though and do not allow myself to be totally absorbed with the past.

Remembering the past is good but moving on is better

I agree with Sticks. If you dont look to the past then you cannot improve on mistakes made. Having said that we cannot dwell on the past too much or we'll never move on.

I love Nostalgia! But I live for the day, and reminsise of the past every now and then.

Has any one heard of the "20 Year Nostalgia" thing. It's where everyone basically see's everything 20 years previous much better. Like now day's the 80's were much better than today, but what about the IRA, serial killings that dominated the media, Thatcher regime (Good and bad I suppose) and more. We usually tend to remember the good things.

An example is BB, you dont remember the boring day-to-day things, but bigger, more exiting things. Does anyone remember what happend during the week 3 shopping budget in BB5? Proberly not, because proberly nothing exciting happend, yet we all remember the BB bedsit, and the good memories dominate the bad!

Does that make sense?

I dont think you should forget the bad or good things in the past in a way,,the mistakes you made, the things you regret, bad times you`ve been through,if you diddnt remember them and think about them then you cant improve and become a better person. Its also good to think about the good things as they make you smile and give you something to be proud off.Of course you should live for the future but you should also be aware fo the past, where you came from and how you go to be the person you are today.

I remember it like it was 3 years 11 months 21 days and 4 hours ago, that's when they had'nt got enough money for coffee so bought 5 extra tea bags instead.
Oh the good memories come flooding back, yes you make a lot of sense

I think it's always good to remember good times that you've had especially as a child although sometimes it's not so good to reflect on the bad times in your life.
