The outcome of Michael Jackson's child molestation trial appeared to drag down ratings for Big Brother last night.

The extended episode, broadcast at 10pm, averaged just 2.9 million viewers and a 13.8% share of the available audience. BBC One's live coverage of the MJ verdict drew a significantly higher 7.61 million (34.5%) between 10pm and 10.35pm.

Earlier, ITV's Celebrity Love Island had pulled in 4.18 million (18.4%).

Spinoff shows BBLB and Big Mouth put in their usual numbers, with first-run audiences of 1.2 million (9.6%) and 279,000 (2.2%) respectively.

Must admit was watching the verdict - foregone conclusion, but had to have it confirmed. How about those jurors being given the star treatment - thank god for the justice system in this country

I watched the MJ verdict too, but I recorded BB and watched it afterwards. I'm not surprised the verdict took a lot of viewers though - it's been a huge news story.
