Singer Winehouse 'has emphysema'







Singer Amy Winehouse has the lung disease emphysema, possibly caused by smoking crack cocaine and cigarettes, her father has said.

Mitch Winehouse told the Sunday Mirror his daughter has early stage emphysema and an irregular heartbeat.

"Doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her," he said.

Emphysema is a progressive lung condition which leaves sufferers struggling for breath.

"She's got emphysema - it's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe," Mr Winehouse said.

'Stay away'

"With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70% lung capacity."

Mr Winehouse also called for his daughter's drug dealers and circle of drug addict pals to stay away from her.

"I'm saying to those drug dealers, and they know who they are, if they are supplying crack to Amy, then they've got to take responsibility," he said.

"I don't want her hanging out with her mates like Pete Doherty either. What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her?"

A spokesman for Winehouse said: "If that's what Mitch says, that's what he says. It sounds right."

The 24-year-old fell ill last week after fainting at her London home.

She is due to perform at the Glastonbury Festival and Nelson Mandela concert this weekend.

Emphysema is caused by gradual damage to the structure of the lungs, which makes it harder to exhale.

It usually affects older people as it is due to culmulative damage over a long period, such as a lifetime of smoking.

I do feel sympathy for her but yet, she brought it on herself and something like this was bound to happen.

No sympathy at all, same as gazza, pete doherty, barrymore, Naoimi Campell, kerry Katona, if they only had as much sense as money.

I have sympathy for all those hard working young fans of hers who have to work or study whilst lining her pockets to snort Sh*t up her nose, many of them cant afford to do drugs and if they can have the good sense not to.
Wouldnt it be nice to open a paper and read about someone who had actually done something other than mess thier life up.
Next story I want to hear about Whingehouse is when the funeral is, so I can hang out my good ridance bunting.

Death is, as they say is inevitable for us all, I dont WISH her dead I simply cant stand the waste of attention she gets for nothing more than doing drugs.
Her fault as she can or could at least seem to appeal to the pres to leave her alone, instead she's proudly showing off her new best mate who is another junkie.
Her attitude in court for her waste of space 'husband' she chose to stand by would have put me and you on a charge of contemp.
She's ignored people who care, fans, familly, doctors, for months if not years.
I'm annoyed that there are people who are her age and younger setting a better example with far more talent and potential yet get little more than a mention in there local gazzette(not all her fault the press also take some blame)
My only wish is shes left alone, one way or another and that wish might do her better than it will me.

I do not want to hear about anyone dying. And don't get me wrong, they way she abuses her body disgusts me. I can never understand why somebody would want to throw their life away like that, and I know it looks inevitable Markus too, but if there's a chance she can turn things around, I hope she finds a way.

Yeah, she's so talented as well. Its a shame shes abusing herself like this. But now she's in good hands, so it could be a turning point for her.
