Default Video Editor

Oh hey there.

Making videos has always been something of a hobby for me, usually it's something I'd plan with a couple of friends in advance, we'd go and film it, I'd put it together using Windows Media Maker, we'd all sit and watch it, enjoy it, and then never look at it again. I'm wondering if any of you lovely people are into video editing, and if so, could you suggest any quality video editing packages?

It's my birthday in two weeks, and I'm currently earning enough money to swim in thanks to my summer job, so I'm looking at video editing packages that I could buy for my birthday.

Any suggestions?

By complicated, do you mean it's advanced in terms of what it can do, or just plain impossible to understand?

Both really There's so much you can do with it! I only did a couple of effects myself, but if you had enough time you could probably learn how to use it properly. I suggest you download the free trial version first to see how you find it

I make videos all the time.

I recently bought MAGIX for 60 quid. It is quite hard to get used to, but has some really really good effects and jazz.

It comes with some really good stuff.

Yeah. I mean obviously, whichever program I buy, will take time to adjust to, so as long as it's not diabolical I'm happy enough to buy something that's a little complicated, so long as the actual program itself is good. What kind of effects can you get on MAGIX?

Thanks horcrux! More than a bit nervous!

Everything really. You name an effett youve seen on a video and MAGIX will have it

Took me aaages to find slow motion though.

Theres loads of good intros and endings aswell. Like scrapbooks opening, picture galleries etc eyc

I use Sony Vegas 8.0

It's one of the best out there and you can do SO many things. It takes a few days to get used to but it's pretty straightforward.

So what is wrong with Windows Movie Maker? I use it for all my work.

Why spend money when you don't have to

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it's served me well every time I've used it, I'm just considering buying a "professional" package because it's something that I find really interesting and would love to play around with, I suppose!

Windows Movie Maker doesn't have as many things you can do with it. Whenever I used to use it I always felt a bit restricted so I made the switch.

Adobe Premiere is pretty good, thats what I used for my A Level piece anyway and it was pretty hard to figure how to use but simple when you knew what to do.

Its not as tacky as WMM either (with the titles and stuff)
