You mean to tell me a communist dictatorship isn't a utopian paradise?

Look at the denigration in our society just from moderate levels of socialism.

It's the effort they put into it to make it look like a utopian society to an extent, completely masking out the poverty and slums of Beijing. I understand it's not a utopian society, but seriously, "One World, One Dream" with that going on behind it? What a bunch of ignorant *******s.

Its terrible and such a horrible dilemma for the athletes too, they have trained for thier lives for this tournament yet set in this country against such contrast of the haves and clearly have nothings, is awfull.

China should never have got the games IMO, with such an abysmal human rights record, photo's like these will make everyone wonder why such a trivial sports event is going on in the midst of such harsh living conditions litrally inches away.
I really don't know whether I feel its right to watch the games now, as much as I wanted to see Jamaica claim a gold in the 100 metres later, pics like this make me wonder if its morrally right to do so.

Its a great thread Rory, to make us all think and be aware of whats really going on in China, thanks for posting it.

Flags on the nice side. The wind is blowing left to right. The washing on the poor side. The wind is blowing right to left.

Why go to the trouble to build a wall to hide the poverty just to leave it so you can see both sides. This is not a real photo.

I am not saying this does not go on. It will have. But this is a good piece of propaganda.

Also, those clothes hangers look like they're floating in mid air.

Is that the wall that separates the tourists from the rest of Beijing?

Anyway,, its no good feeling sorry, because nothing will be done that way. Action needs to be taken.

They had a whole thing on the news about how in China loads of people got their houses knocked down for the Olympics, and these chinese people were risking their life to show the BBC it.

Even if it is fake, it does reek of hypocrisy for China to be all Utopian with their human rights record. Mind you, governing almost 2 billion people must be impossible. :|

The picture is fake but regardless, things like this happen everywhere. I've been to China with a some friends and I've been to those towns and I've met the people who didn't mind living there.

Even if this photo is fake, it still depicts the way China really is. Well done Rory
