It does sound like it's been tweaked with to make it sound worse, but she's one of those singers who isn't actually all that great at singing but is successful due to marketability, stage presence and charisma.
Kind of like Madonna or Kylie.

I'm not saying Britney is naturally a good singer. I wouldn't know.

But this particular clip looks faked/exaggerated. There was a number of points (~0:58) where the voice was singing but Britney wasn't.

To be honest, Britney has always been a studio singer. She doesn't have the best voice out there, but she does have one.

And I don't think her voice made her popular - it was her dance routines and the shows she put on. Her music is catchy and pop, and that's whats made her who she is.

I don't think this is 100% real. Some parts maybe - she's out of breathe from dancing so she won't sound her best. Some parts however seem faked/unreal.

The version from the DVD is mimed, this is her singing under the miming. She is only singing so that it looks more like she is wording along with the words. I respect you guys sticking up for britney and everything.
But I believe... if you cant/wont sing live, dont sing at all. Even Kyle sings live.

I don't wanna start an argument or anything But I'd love to see you try to dance to say Toxic as well as sing it live. I don't think she mimes because she can't sing or what not - just because its in her best interest for her fans to enjoy her show. And if shes singing as well as doing some intense dancing, it wouldn't be a good combination. She does sing live though.

I never think its fair when poor singers get famous, even if that video is exaggerated the video Riz posted honestly doesn't make me feel any better about her. Just seems she is famous for her looks rather than her talents.

I agree with you, nowdays almost anyone can pick up the mic and have there voice tweaked to perfection. I think its unfair that people get paid so much, when there voice is fairly average, and there are far better singers out there. I'm not saying Britney has a bad voice, its just that there are far better pop singers out there that don't get enough recognition, but her dance moves make it up;

See now I am just sounding negative about everything but the first one is tone deaf and the second one looks like she is miming . She needs miming lessons, because when she mimes her mouth goes much wider than when she sings normally.

No it's ok, I agree. The first one is pretty bad. I just ran on YouTube and found the first one that came up. Everytime is better.

VMAs 2000, she sang "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" live perfectly before having to mime where she broke out into a heavy dance routine, she may not have the strongest of voices, but Britney can clearly sing.

I say listen to that. Its only a year old and proves she still can sing - unlike some people say. Has nothing to do with her being live, but proves she still has a voice. Last half is the best. No voice editing, nothing.

So you people are saying Britney's the ONLY performer who cant sing 100% amazingly all the time. Christina and Kelly arent amazing 24/7 aswell you knw- its just easy for people to pick on Britney cos shes an easy target.

Im not gonna use the whole 'its fake' thing because even if its not, shes putting on an amazing show- shes a performer aswell as a singer, and she does it fantastically. No one has ever said Britneys an amazing singer- but she is sure as hell an amazing act.

Yeh but when you arent amazing it doesnt give you an excuse to go mime, there are some videos of kelly on the internet singing really bad but she still never mimes. Let me find one of kelly's worst performances... she cracks and some times goes out of key. But Britney does it on such a larger scale, and just To remind people I am commenting on her singing skills not her dancing.
As far as I care she is being paid for singing so thats all I want to comment on. Not trying to compare them but if you are a singer then you should sing... kelly has done dancing before and still sung. Maybe not full on choreographing but why cant Britney do a bit of dancing then sing? In stead of trying to be super cool and do it all at once. Might as well go see a dance show.
