Default Media studies?

Hey

I just got in from the second day back, (knackered btw xD) and we had english.

I got put the the 'express' group, which is basically top set, just poshend up. We do english lit and language, and also media studies, unlike the other groups who only to lit and language.

Because she was a teacher non of us had ever had before, she wanted to know a little bit about us, and we had to write a bit about ourselves and hobbies etc. So I said like I has 3 dogs and that, and also I mentioned I love graphics and designing stuff on the computer.. websites and the like.

So she was walking round, reading over everyone's shoulder to see what they put, and she stopped at me and said something like "oo you do graphics and design stuff on the computer?" so I said yea and then my friend started saying about how good she thinks I am xD lol, then she was like "oh wow! you will complete your media studies in 5 minutes flat".

But, what is Media Studies? xD I thought it was like to do with stuff in the media!

Anyone know?

Thank you xD

wiki says;

Media studies is one of the biggest several titles under which academic programs approach the content, history, meaning and effects of various media. Media studies scholars vary in the theoretical and methodological focus they bring to mass media topics, including the media's political, social, economic and cultural roles and impact.
Media studies draw on traditions from both the social sciences and the humanities, and overlap in interests with related disciplines mass communication, communication, communication sciences and communication studies. Researchers develop and employ theories and methods from disciplines including cultural studies, rhetoric, philosophy, literary theory, psychology, political science, political economy, economics, sociology, social theory, social psychology, media influence, cultural anthropology, cultural studies, museum studies, art history and criticism, film and video studies, and information theory.
Scholars may focus on the constitution of media and question how they shape what is regarded as knowledge and as communicable. The related field of media psychology concerns itself with the psychological impact of the media on individuals and cultures.

I dont know when we're starting, but I think we're doing a Shakespeare play before .. can't remember which one xD The film is blood and all gutty.. so I will either sit in the corner and look and the window, or I'll get out of watching it, I can't stand blood/guts/scaryness !

& Im starting year 10, yea x

We has an option to do photography, that couldv'e been one of my 4 options, but I didn't take it x

Well my friends who did media had to make up their own band as part of their coursework. They had to design an album cover as well so that could be part of the graphics

Analysing and producing film, music, TV, print and the internet.

I think that covers jut about everything

Its a waste of an A level or degree though, theres not much point in carrying it on after school.

I started it this week

Basically its:

- Designing a small magazine that looks real with inside stories on whatever you want.
- Making a short Game show/Film/Reality show/Soap with all the promotional stuff, graphics and who will do it ect...
- Designing a newspaper
- Making an advertising campaign including a video advert, billboard advert, magazine advert, bus advert ect
- Photography/Cinematography
- Designing a CD front cover
- Pulling apart films and TV shows and writing about each thing aka the roles, characters, special effects, graphics, cleverness...

Thats what I'm doing any way. Oh and you get your test papers a month before the test.

So literally you need to be creative, have creative skill and resources, be good at drama and be good at camera/video angles, shots, colours, effects and proportions.

My whole year 10 and 11 do English Language, Lit and Media for English so I did it last year as well for mine it's stuff like creating a sitcom, creating a magazine and doing newspaper articles and things like that. I find it quite easy but thats just my preference some of my friends find it difficults so I think it's just down to the person

When I was doing Media studies on A level... I though it was the biggest load of bull ever! They were trying to teach me how if a banana is a certain way in an advert it creates such a different effect. Im not big on media studies... although at my second college they looked more fun than my first... but I never took the lessons.
