Okay, I loathe it:

The storylines are all depressing in two senses of the word; dreary and sadly reflective of a broken society. All of the dialogue, characters and scenarios are emotionally stunted, and stupid families continue to watch it religiously. Why? Because it's guaranteed to be on, or because they can relate to it? This reasoning is poor; people should watch thought-provoking and intelligent programming, and as for relation...well that says a lot about the viewers, really.

Who actually finds the repetitive, melodramatic, over-cooked lives of fictional 2D characters entertaining? Is there anything more to the show than being able to say to your friends "did you see that explosion last night?" I don't think there is.

And the horrible irony of the whole fiasco is that storylines are regularly spoiled and planned weeks ahead of them actually happening on-screen, in silly magazines like "What's On TV". So the element of surprise is also taken away.

Watch something else, please. [/rant]

Right well.

The storylines are not ALL depressing ,infact I find it rather amusing ,there are actually a few characters whos main purpose seems to be to play a comedy role for example,Garry,Minty,Heather-although almost everyone has there moments.Maybe I have a strange sense of humour but i genuinely find eastenders funny.
Eastenders has had some of the most original and well remembered storylines ever shown in soap. They are not afraid to touch on sensitive subjects and they do a great job of showing how a particular storyline affects people in real life. For example ,the downsyndrome story, when Honey and Billies baby girl Janet was diagnosed with downsyndrome. The storyline was so well recieved by the public, eastenders wins everytime ,handsdown at every soap and televsion awards and its popularity is going from strength to strength. It always has been and still is the most popular soap on British tv.All those people can`t be wrong!

Actually Coronation Street is the most popular. It nearly always wins over EE in the soap/TV awards and gets better rating the majority of the time!

It ha sgotten better the last year. Starting from Novermber last year. Last Christmas was the best!! And the ratinsg proved it with 14m people tuning in.

And last night recieved 9.3m viewers which has been a big increase, I guess the whole Tony/Whitney/Lauren thing and the whole Ronnie/Archie/Danielle thing is catching on.

I'd say EE does better in awards, but Corrie is higher in the ratings

Aye both shows have similar audience figures (probs people turning over from Corrie to Eastenders which works well for both shows

I think the ratings for both will be going back up to 10m/11m soon as its colder out

Eastenders is so much better than it was last year, the first half of this year was amazing but the quality has gone down since
I don't watch it anymore but it is better than the majority of the soaps
