Default Alexandra - A More Versatile Leona?

before i begin; I AM NOT BASHING LEONA SIMPLY MAKING A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE X-FACTOR WINNER AND A COMPETITOR IN THE CURRENT SERIES. :]

First live show, and I expected, as I'm sure many others did, Alex to belt out a ballad. However she surprised by singing an upbeat song, and she admitted on the show that she wanted to show she can sing upbeat songs as she's only done slower ones so far in the competition.
Providing she does a mix of uptempo songs&ballads, would this prove she's more versatile than Leona?

The only times we've really heard Leona do upbeat was with 'Lady Marmalade'/'Could It Be Magic?' on The X-Factor [though they're not particularly fast songs], and with her new single 'Forgive Me' [though her diction isn't fantastic on that either].

Despite having a lower range, I still think of Alexandra as similar to Leona [although their voices are quite different], but possibly more versatile.
Opinions?
How would you compare Leona/Alexandra?

Apples and Oranges. You compare them then state how clearly different they are, and how versatile leona is!

THERE IS NO COMPARAISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Stupid dumb ass thread

No comparison at all.............I quite like alex as a singer. However, Leona is capable of singing anything she wants (ok opera may be a no-no!). Leona was a singer for an indie band before XF, she is quite capable of singing 'upbeat' if and when the mood demands...............when alex has won XF, and been no.1 in the singles and album charts in the US AND the UK, then you can ask if there is a comparison. In the meantime darenn, I would worry more about the likes of laura, ruth, diana and even rachel if I was you......

I think their voices are quite similar and they are both compared greatly to the likes of Whitney, Mariah, Christina etc.

I think Leona does have a softer voice and can sound more angelic (sp) and then Alexandra has a lot more belly behind her. She seems to have a more powerful voice when belting out a ballad.

I can see where you are coming from Darenn saying that Alexandra can do more styles because she can. Leona could pull off anything but she might not do it specially well. Its just what you are most comfortable with at the end of the day and Leona sorts her ballads more to show off her voice. She would just be an average good singer singing anything other than a ballad.

An 'average good singer'?? Ask Simon Cowell if he'd swap leona for alex..........as I said before, nothing against alex, but lets see her get past laura, ruth and diana first.......and don't forget she has the added confidence of being on the show 3 years ago, even if she didn't make it to the last 12..............

This has nothing to do with whether or not Simon would swap Leona for Alexandra so why bother saying that?

Yes when Leona sings something that is not a ballad - she is not amazing or world class. She is just a good singer. Any good singer. Hence me saying "an average good singer". As she is only amazing and world class when she is singing a ballad so she can show off her vocal skills.

And this has nothing to do about how far Alexandra will get in the competition either so why bring up "lets see her get past laura, ruth and diana first"

Lets not as this thread said nothing about her winning or being the best in the show. Which is what you are making your posts about and being totally rude about it btw. Darenn simply wanted to compare Leona and Alexandra.

Personally I would say Leona is the far superior singer.

Darenn said that leona never, or hardly ever ,sings anything other than ballads. If so, how can you make the assumption that she can only sing anything else 'averagely good'? And of course' it's also about whether alex can win or even get to the final. Would he, or you, be asking the same question if she was knocked out next week? Like I said before, I like alex, but the comparison at this stage with leona is just plain silly. And that's not being rude, that's being honest................

I'm not sure. I personally think Leona has a better voice. I understand what you mean though. Alexandra pulled off a dance song well (as well as her usual ballads), whilst Leona's voice is more suited for slower songs.

Its not about whether she can win or not. The question could have still been posted if she had left on Saturday night.

Where did Maria come from? [IMO, Maria's better than the pair of them because she's unique but the thread isn't about that]
The thread was comparing Leona&Alexandra.

I think Alexandra is better because she seems to have a stronger voice, but then again I don't think they are that similar. I think Leona is more like Mariah Carey, and Alexandra is more like Toni Braxton.

thats not realy true.you dont have to sing a ballad to show of your vocal skills.some of Leonas best notes are showcased in Forgive Me and some of her other non-ballad songs.

anyway i cant say i agree with the OP.IMO Alexandra hasnt proven that she is of a Leona/Whitney/Mariah standard YET.by the first live show IMO we alreday knew how amazing Leona was and 2 years on shes even better.im not saying Alexandra isnt as good as Leona but she certainly hasnt proved it yet.
