Sticks I think that it would be great if that word were to be banned - so many people are hung up on being a ********re that they dont see the great wonderful things that they can do with their lives

In teaching my experience is I can get anyone to pass a course as long I give them right encouragement and support, but they have to do the work themselves at the end of the day.

But there are people at the who will not work no matter how hard you try to support them. And in a lot of cases these are not the less able students. The only thing you can do for them is leave them ungraded.... or have a system were than get something for the work they have done but not the complete qualification.

Sounds like the start of a very good system you are coming up with there Red. I am not a teacher but I do deliver a lot of training and, do NVQ Assessment and agree that a lot of people are just not motivated and not matter what you try they will not engage. I often find that the less intelligent ones are the ones that will give you 110% to get it right where the others are happy to give you 50% as long as they can say they came along to the training day.

That's like this primary school here in Guernsey. The head decided that the kids shouldn't be taught to read the word 'fat' for some reason, so the teachers went through the reading-books, and turned all the 'fat's to 'pat's with a pen.

So now the cat sits on the mat, and Percy's a pat pig.

This is ridiculous.
I failed my eleven-plus, I went to a second-rate school. So what? If you're not smart enough, or don't try hard enough, you fail.

I think it's just stupid.

Not having a 'fail' grade isn't going to increase people's enthusiasm (sp?) for school, coz if there isn't a fail grade, then there's nothing to work for IMO coz you're not gonna fail anyway.... lol that didn't make any sense but oh well.

So you cant say you've failed (opps sorry used the F word) your driving test or failed an exam????
I dont think its derogatory if you fail something, you just didnt make the cut and try harder next time!

A lot of students **** because of pressure, and it's a huge blow if you think you're really good at it and then ****. I know what that feels like, and I think it's a good idea, but people still ultimately KNOW it's a ****!
