There will never be a third world war.

For there to be one, it would have to be fought with nuclear weapons, and after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the Japanese learnt one lesson they will never forget. We have all learnt the same lesson to. In a nuclear war there are no winners, only losers and billions of dead people and total destruction. It would be a pointless exercise.

Yes I think... its inevitable. People said there would never be a world war 2 because people had learnt from world war 1.
To be honest, we were VERY close not too long ago, thank god most countries refused to get involved with the american war with Iraq. Australia and the UK obviously are stupid. haha.

That was a badly thought out statement!

World war 1 was not fought by nuclear weapons, which is why world war 2 was more attractive. There was a chance of world domination which Hitler had in his sick mind. The bombing of Hiroshima has taught everyone an important lesson, that a third world war would wipe us all out and leave total carnage worldwide and billions of dead people.

Watch that film, "The Day After", and you shall realise.

Australia and the UK are not stupid. If that was the case then that would include you and me mate.

A whole nation are not stupid, it is the politicians we vote in who make the decisions to go into war. Also, the war with Iraq was an easy fight. The countries involved in invading that country had a large arsenal of nuclear weapons and Iraq had NONE! That made it quite easy, in fact, "A doddle"! So how could that be described as a world war? It was not a world war, it was merely an invasion.

No one has learnt any lessons at all, there are plenty of countries still power hungry and they might not use Nuclear weapons but the threats are there. I think saying no WW3 will happen is kidding yourself... all countries are preparing themselves for something to happen, building bases for very intelligent missiles, ones that can destroy satellites and can shoot nuclear bombs. It will happen one day, may it be in 1000 years or 10... its gonna happen.
Its inevitable.

If we look at the history of Germany, at this moment it is near a point where it has been twice before. It is the most powerful country in Europe, with a very strong domestic and foreign policy. In the next 10 years it will be become an even greater power and the same goes for before both the other world wars. It will only take one wrong person in Germany to get a sniff of power and we will get a world war because Germany isn't a country which was meant to be peaceful and democratic, it is a country made to rule and expand its their nature.
I just used Germany as an example because its at that point again, but the same applies to other countries one person can do so much damage.

No. Everyone knows if there is one then with the new technology and bombs it will just destroy the world. If we look back to the Cuban Missile Crisis they both came to a mutual agreement to pull out because they knew if they didn't the earth would have been destroyed.

A 1000 years is a long time. By then we shall be so advanced in our technology that world domination would be impossible to achieve. The countries which are civilized and wish to keep our world a safe place would have the technological power to prevent such things. If an uncivilized country has found/made the technology to destroy a satellite and/or shoot nuclear bombs down, then you can bet your bottom dollar that the superpowers, America, Russia will have more advanced technology to get around that obstacle.

I use the word, "uncivilized", to describe a country ruled by mad people. Only a mad person in power would try to start world war 3 against the superpowers of this world who own the arsenal of weapons to then annihilate those who try to destroy.

It doesn't matter how powerful Germany gets. They shall never be as powerful as America. Also, Hitler is dead and gone and Germany is governed by sane individuals who have no intention of starting a world war. If they did, they would of course lose. Germany shall always lose when it comes to world wars.

"one person can do so much damage."

Indeed they are.

That is why the superpowers have at the top of their agenda, to seek out and destroy those who may pose a threat to our lovely world as we know it.

Computers can do a hell of a lot.

Before Hitler, Germany was governed by this so called sane individuals who had no intention of starting any war but after world financial difficulties like the ones currently happening it gave extremists a chance to get power and Hitler did exactly that.
Germany is in the same position now, if the money crisis gets worst then who says an extremist wont take advantage of the chance to grab power then start a world war?

Yes! he did exactly that, and lost the war.

I know that we are heading for a recession and banks are in serious trouble and shares plummeting. It all looks very bad, but this won't start a war. Especially a world war.

What occured MANY years ago during world war 1 was much different. It doesn't matter whether there was a financial problem then and another one today. A world war cannot happen because of the arsenal of nuclear weapons owned by the superpowers. Only an idiot would try and, "of course", fail.

I'm not saying that it will cause a war, i'm just giving one very good example to how the next world war could start and sooner than we think. There are many thing which can happen in a short space of time so nobody should rule out the possibility of another world war in out life time
and what happened many years ago is repeating itself today so don't rule it out

I will agree that there maybe a war of some kind over the next few years or beyond, but I stand by my statement that because of the nuclear weapons owned by the superpowers, a world war seems impossible.

I do understand though that the world is in crisis and also that fanatics like Binladen and Saddam Hussein can cause mass destruction, but shall always be punished for doing so. MASSIVELY...I might add!
