Paris Hilton splits from musician beau Benji Madden after 10 month romance

Socialite Paris Hilton has ended her 10 month romance with Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden.

The hotel heiress, 27, had been spending increasingly amounts of time away from her rocker beau due to filming commitments in London and it appears the distance didn't make the heart grow fonder.

News of their break-up comes as a shock as gossips were expecting an engagement announcement.

A source close to Paris told MailOnline: 'It's definitely over.

'Paris thinks the world of Benji, but it wasn't meant to be.

'For now it's over... but there's still a lot of feeling there.'

Despite her heartbreak, Paris put on a brave face as she attended the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel grand opening party in Miami, Florida on Friday.

Paris and Benji started dating in February after they increasingly began spending time together when visiting her best friend Nicole Richie.

Nicole, daughter of singer Lionel Richie, has a 11-month-old daughter Harlow with Benji's twin brother Joel.

Paris and Benji's relationship started just weeks after he ended his engagement to Australian singer/actress Sophie Monk.

During their relationship, Paris said: 'He is not only my boyfriend, he is my best friend. He treats me like a princess.

'I was always going round to see Harlow, and Benji would be there to see the baby too. And we just fell in love. He has really changed my life. I don’t really like going out any more – we just stay home and I cook for him.'

The Simple Life reality star's mother Kathy was equally enthusiastic about the future for the couple.

She said: 'This has honestly become the real thing. It's a great love match, and I have a funny feeling it's going to go all the way, and we've already given it our approval.

'Their life has never been better. We agree with Paris that he is an amazing guy. He has changed her life, and I really think she's genuinely in love for the first time.'

Early into their relationship, the couple appeared to be very serious each other and had even discussed marriage and kids.

In May, Benji said: 'We have known each other for a long time, and I've always known the real Paris. I always knew that she was like...wife material or serious girlfriend material.

'You just want to get on top of a mountain and go, I'm in love! But your fans would probably make fun of you.'

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden have ended their nine month relationship, reports say.

Friends of the US socialite told The Sun that she decided this week that they were "too different" and had "grown apart".

The relationship was under further strain due to the amount of time Hilton, 27, has spent outside of the US filming ITV2 show Paris Hilton's New Best Friend in London.

"They are just way too different. He has helped her grow up and they want to stay friends. But essentially he's a bit controlling," the friend said.

Hilton's publicist Alanna McCarthy said that the two "remain very good friends".

The Good Charlotte guitarist recently described Hilton as the love of his life, adding: "She is my life, my heart and my soul, and is the most important thing in my life. No-one exists but her."
