'Washer woman' Martina strikes out after only finding two stars in the I'm A Celebrity tub of slush

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova isn't used to losing, so it was quite a blow when she only managed two stars in the latest Bushtucker Trial.

The 52-year-old was horrified when campmate George Takei misread the name of the trial as Wash and Dry instead of Wash and Cry on Wednesday's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Let Me Out Of Here!

Thinking it was called the harmless sounding Was and Dry, Martina volunteered for the trial, but quickly realised the task wasn't so easy when she smelt it.

Arriving at a clearing with hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, Martina was stunned when saw the tub of foul jungle pulp.

She said: 'I volunteered for this - what was I thinking?'

Martina listened in horror as she was told she would have to jump into the tub of filth and search the camp laundry for items of clothing with stars on them.

Among the foul items in the tub were rotten fish guts.

Once Martina found a starred item, she would have the put the item and climbed out of the tub and pull herself along the rollers and through the jungle mangle for a wringing.

After a wringing, Martina would have to crawl down the net, take off the item and hang it on a washing line while being blown by a wind full of jungle critters.

When asked if she wanted to back out, Martina said: 'I’ve got to do it. I mean that’s what I’m here for. Can’t wimp out, it’s not in my vocabulary.'

After jumping into the tub, Martina soon found a pair of trousers with a star on it.

She completed her first run of the assault course and returned to the tub for the second garment.

It took Martina rather a while to find the second star on a top which she rushed to get on the washing line.

After jumping in in the hope of finding more stars, the retired sports ace searched and searched through the muck, but to no avail.

A disappointed Martina climbed out of the tub after her time's up and admitted she was gutted.

As Ant and Dec recoiled from the foul-smelling Martina, she joked: 'Don't you want a hug?'

She hoped her campmates would be supportive she only managed two stars: 'They’ll see what I went through. But it’s a shame going through that and not getting more.

'At least nothing was alive in there. It was so disgusting.'

Everyone smelt Martina as soon as she arrived back at the camp.

Her campmates commented on the foul smell, prompting a dripping Martina to jump in the river for a wash.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, a cocky David Van Day said: 'I thought she would have done better than that, thought she was our jungle Jane. Two stars; should have sent me.’
