Default Big Brother winner learns to drive in Norwich

He is used to being under surveillance 24-hours a day, but a former Big Brother winner has been under a different kind of scrutiny as he took part in a driving course in Norwich.

Brian Belo who won the popular reality television series in 2007, has been in the city since Monday taking intensive lessons with the 5Day driving school based in St Frances House, Queens Road.

It devised a special programme for Brian, who is from Basildon, and he is set to take his theory test within the next couple of weeks and then take his practical test after that.

He took time out from his driving to tell the Evening News: ?I think Norwich is one of the best places to learn to drive. London is a bit full on. In Norwich it is not nearly as congested and you can get a feel for the road.

?I was a real rookie before this, I had not even looked at the Highway Code since school.?

The 21-year-old has been staying in the city whilst undertaking the course and he says it has given him the chance to sample some of the bars, restaurants and nightlife.

He said: ?I cannot remember having been to Norwich before but it is a really nice city, I have been out to a few of the bars and restaurants while I have been here and I have made some great mates on the course who I am going to stay in touch with.?

Once he does pass his test, he says his first plans are to drive to the gym and take his friends out.

When Brian, who was born in Nigeria before being adopted and brought over to the UK, won the Big Brother show he received ?100,000 and the became its ever youngest winner.

Richard Minkler, manager of 5Day said: ?Having Brian here has actually really helped the other students on the course because he is so friendly and has such a bubbly personality, it has really put the others at ease. We are really pleased he chose us to learn with.?

Brian is not the first celebrity to walk through the doors of 5Day as pop star Jamelia Davis also learnt to drive with the firm in 2005, as well as Lil Chris, a pop and rap star from Lowestoft.
