Default What is the point in Tesco self serve?

Just been to Tesco and basically last few times I've been I've noticed that when you use the SELF SERVE, you either have some woman stood behind you making sure you're doing it all properly or someone actually comes over and its just like, erm hello love the clues in the name.

Surely security guards should be checking noone is robbing off with anything?

So yeah, whats the point?

i dont get the point in it either i refuse to use it anyway they are supposedly meant to be encouraging your own bags but you cant on the self serve plus the person standing there watching/helping/taking over i just stand in the queue for a checkout and ignore them when they ask f i would like to try self serve

It's not really like that here. They have someone at the end who takes covers off cd's,give you bags if you need etc but they don't get in the way.

I went with a lady friend to buy a pregnancy test and the machine broke, and the woman who was lurking comes over to fix the machine. Awkward times! I don't really get the point in it either. Boots have a self service too, their one is great, they don't have people lurking!

But the humans are still there, so it's not saving on paying people. It just means instead of sitting serving, they're standing watching.

They have people lurking cuz most of the time when I go at least one of the tills is not working properly.

I totally see why they tried to bring in this self serve sceme but they, in the main, dont work or you have problems scanning particular item or the thing doesnt deliver the correct amount of change or something else goes wrong. They should scrap them and just have more people manning the check out.

I always use it, and never really have people supervising me unless the machine messes up. There's only one person for the 4 machines.

Why is it Women are Rubbish at Math.
I have dyscalculia actually, so yes I am bad at math, nothing to do with my gender. Not to mention the fact it had NOTHING to do with math, and everything to do with LOGIC.
Why is it men are bad at LOGIC.

Btw, there's only ONE self service machine in my local supermarket, hence my point, hence voiding your point, hence the logic, so .... door is that way.

But the amount of people who actually queue up to use 4 machines is pretty much the same as the amount of people queuing up to open one till, so the supervisor might as well just open a till!

Don't diss self serve, our local ASDA & M&S have them, they are brill.

Also, at ASDA theres just a woman who stands at the end and she has a computer which can see everything on the other self serve tills, so she only comes over if you've got a problem or made a mistake.

Asda is better. They have one supervisor for 8 self service tills in ours. If they have to tend to someone you can throw stuff in your bag without them seeing.

Asda ones never work for me so if they don't scan they just go into the bag and I pretend they have because noone watches those ones near me

They are a pain in the arse. The amount of times they will not scan things is ridiculous in my experience. Then if the supervisor is busy, you have to wait before you can carry on scanning your shopping. I do believe it is quicker to queue up at a till. I get more annoyed at self scan tills because of the amount of time they take up, so much so, I hardly use them anymore.
