Default June 2008, 3.3m. June 2009, 1.9m.

Ratings are down nearly 40% from last year, could this be down to the lack of live feed, the housemates or result of a tired format?

Live feed is an issue but not that big an issue

Launch night/opening weekend killed the series stone dead imo. There was a lack of atmosphere and it was boring because of the 'seen it all before' effect. The twist wasn't exactly amazing either, great on paper but it didn't really translate so well on screen especially when it just turned out to be tasks to save you from eviction.

Its about 0.7m down on last year with the week 1 averages. But its a shame because it is quite a good series.

Plus the format is tired as well, it will never be a main stream show anymore but can have a future as a cult show. Its just whether Channel 4 are willing to take that risk or not.

Has their been stories about the housemates in the papers? That helps to drum up intrest in the program.

This series needs something shocking to grab the headlines which would earn more viewers.

I don't really think it will, BB just can't shock anymore. The only other thing that could probably happen is a death or something like that and it would get taken off air anyway

Nah, the paper's interest has been at an all time low. Not surprising - the live feed was an important tool for journalists writing about it.

I agree with you there andyman. NOthing but a juicy scandal to bring in the viewers.
I wish there was a SOhie/Karly/Noirin se tape out there that popped up. Or a tape of Sree with a scouser accent. LOL! Then watch the ratings shoot up to 5 millions overnight!

Media interest was pretty high for the first couple of days though.

I just think its something we need to accept. BB has had its day as a mainstream show. It does have a future but the only way it can move forward is if it stops being compared to what it once was. Other reality shows with a purpose have now taken over, BB doesn't really have a purpose, its just 'on'.

It's sad that the ratings are so low & I don't think it's all down to live feed or whatever I just think over the years people have lost intrest.

They definetely need something to grab the attention of the media

"Charlie gay sex romp!"

BB throws in few more housemates, one of them gay and BB gives them more booze.. Things will happen.

Other housemates just need to be pushed into action..
