I think that before you decide which course you take you should think about which degree you would like to progress to, and also consider what future career you would hope to follow with either qualification.

Both courses have their benefits, their are lots of opportunities which ever career path you choose to follow. Maybe you should pop into your local connexions centre and have a chat with a careers adviser, or go along to the college and chat to one there. They will help you make the right choice for you!

You could to an Access to H.E. course. It's recognised by Universities as an alternative to A Levels, and you can do it as an evening course, too. It would give you more options as far as Uni is concerned than the HNC would as well. Access is a one year course, but it would only get you as far as the first year of a degree course at Uni.

There is more work and money in computing.

Business is crap but also profitable.

Personally I would go for information technology. Business is a bit of a broad non-specific thing to study.

Hey, but that's just me Cc. I like fiddling with my pc. I've done management training and taught management skills in Uni and it's pretty deadly stuff unless you are a fledgling megalomaniac who enjoys inflicting pain and suffering on the masses, and I don't think you are!

A HNC/HND is a great way of accessing entry to higher ed though, whatever course you do.

Good luck with whatever direction you take.

I'll steer clear of giving advice! Past experiences have showed that well my advice isn't always the right advice.

I did an HNC and HND in computing and then went to university. I would always choose computing because I like the subject, and I don't know much about business.

One thing I noticed when I was at college was that some of the students found the programming parts of the course quite difficult, and a fair amount of the course would involve that - though certainly not all at HNC.

Doing an HNC in computing doesn't necessarily lead to software development. You can go on to do say, multimedia, networking or technical support.
