Default The Bill, were you offended?

I don't watch the Bill its boring. However apparently 2 policemen were shown kissing. I saw a clip of it on TV yesterday. Because apparently there have been a flood of complaints. I think the important factor here is they were male, which is not as yet accepted to the same degree as females.

My only hope is that the people who complained were all too old to know any better. What annoys me even more is that a few of the papers making a big deal of this, surely it better not to talk about it, as that in it self is giving the homophoebic complainers a platform.

I know no-one is probably that interested, but I just wanted to see how many people agree with me.

In my opinion with the 'younger' generation, particularly females homosexuality is not a big issue. But I still feel it is very prevalent particularly with males. There is also still a lot of homophebia out there only now it is a lot more subtle.

Sorry for having a rant, but I feel better now.
Homophebia is my pet hate!!!!

I didn't see it either but am not surprised by the response it's had in certain sections of the press. The same thing happened when two guys kissed in EastEnders a few years back. It's pitiful that people have nothing better to do than get on their high horse about this. Sod the fact that murders, rapes, violence, abusive language, etc, appear to be the staple diet of a lot of TV stations, no, we'll let that go, but two guys kissing - how obscene!! Pathetic.

Two men kissing on TV doesn't offend me

Two women kissing on TV doesn't offend me

What offends me is the bigoted attitude of people foisting their archaic views of homophobia on me!

I'm utterly gobsmacked!! I've watched the Bill for years, but stopped when the ridiculous Don Beech storyline was going on. Recently however I've been gripped by quite a few of the storylines, and found that the show has returned to its former glory.

I'd heard about the kiss before it happened, so I wasn't altogether surprised. The scene itself was handled sensitively and tastefully, unlike some of the revolting scenes between Tom Chandler and Debbie McAllister which made me squirm. I suppose it's the difference between watching two likeable characters (ie Luke Ashton and Craig Gilmore) kissing, and two extremely unpleasant people giving each other a good mauling!

It was a very emotional scene, following weeks of smouldering from both men, and was totally ruined for me by the fact that the action immediately switched to a scene from next week, showing a major punch-up between 2 other officers! Talk about ruining a beautiful moment!!!! I wonder how many complaints there were about the violent scene which followed the kiss? Not many I'll bet .... what a screwed up world we live in.

Anyone who wishes to give their support and counterbalance some of the hysterical homophobia can email feedback.thebill@thebill.com

Homophobia is one of my pet hates too Bonzobravo!!

What offends me is:
violence and aggression dressed up as entertainment,
brain dead children's TV presenters who patronise their audience,
so called chat shows which feature confrontation and argument and dress it up as some kind of cathartic experience for the participant,
all the '.................from hell' programmes which are just downright lazy television,
I could go on.
Scenes of tenderness and affection between people is not in the slightest bit offensive, irrespective of their gender.
If people are offended by that scene they really need to take a long hard look at themselves.

How true tonto, but we have brains and are open minded. We should actually feel pity for them!

Tonto

I have learnt over the years just ignore that type of coment. It is done for a reaction, all we can hope for is in the future, medicine can find a way to give ppl brain transplants.

Or just develop an open mind. I would hope they could post again stating a rational point of view if they are capable. I could go on but I would just be wasting my time, I suspect there is probably a few more on this forum who feel the same (law of averages).

lol what a great insight they gave us, in to there level of intellect

Can I be the voice of reason here please?

Some members of this site might simply not like the fact that gay kissing is shown on TV, but that does not mean that they are homophobic!

I don't like seeing women's breasts plastered all over billboards and bus-stops but that doesn't mean I think the female form is offensive, i just don't want pictures of it rammed in my face!

I accept that a one word post can be seen as ambiguous, but unless we know how a person is feeling when they make a post like that, we can't automatically say what the word means.

Thankyou,

Janette

Yep Janette but even I admit I am 'hyper' sensitive on this issue.

So lets hope they post again to inform us what they meant!

I am not pi**ed of with them, everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but over such a delicate issue it would be nice to express opinions properly.

I imagine Janette although you don't particularly wanna see womens breasts everywere, and avoid it when possible.
But I wouldn't of thought you would be offended by them.

I personally am offended by very little!!

No actually, thinking about it. Why use the word YUK,if you were truly open minded and couldn't care less about someones sexuality.

in the dictionary
YUCK
slang expesion of STRONG DISTASTE

No matter how flipant the word was used IT IS HOMOPHEBIA!!!

There will always be people like that though, but I REFUSE to not state MY TRUE FEELINGS.

In my opinion until ppl start bringing people to task over there comments, no matter how small or subtle they are, then homophebia will always exist.

Sorry to go on but HOMOPHOEBIA is my pet hate, and SHOULD not be taken lightly.

If Splodge? felt 'YUCK' when seeing 2 men kiss
tenderly then to me that is exactly Homophebia, so I DISAGREE with you JANETTE it is homophebia, but I still love you.

I have no major problem with whoever said it, because I have to respect their opinion, but I am also entitled to MY opinion and I hope people respect my opinion. and for those who don't know I am bi-sexual so I apologise in advance.

I am on the way to confession!!!!

Sad that someone feels that way about such a touching scene really! I think it says a lot about the person posting. I find most of the kisses shown on the Bill and other supposedly gritty dramas are usually "YUK" in the extreme! This one, however, wasn't. The character of Craig Gilmore is usually uptight, pompous and gruff, but the emotion conveyed by Hywel Simons in just 10 words leading up to the kiss brought a tear to my eye!

Just to redress the balance a little, I have to point out that I am a middle-aged, happily married, heterosexual female and therefore widely regarded (or so it seems!) as the sort of person likely to be deeply offended by the scene in question. I wasn't. It was lovely.

I draw the line at saying "yum" or "phwoar" because really it was actually very tame .... I think the best word I can come up with is probably ..... AWWWW!
