Default IS THIS WHY BB\'S RATINGS HAVE GONE DOWN

I am really starting to wonder if the reason ratings have gone down is due to all the bitching and divides we have seen in the last few series. If you go back to the older BB's there were people that didnt like eachother but they tolerated eachother I would say over the last 3 series all we get is 'the relationship' the divide and the plain nasty individuals if you go back to say the BB Kate lawlor was in they just had fun were pleased to be in the house enjoyed themselves and had a laugh and we all laughed with them. I think they really need to look at the type of personality they are putting in there.

It's the producers showing favouritism towards certain housemates. /:

Totally agree.

Remember PJ and Spencer - two real 'lads' but not a bad bone in their bodies. Just out for a laugh.

Now we've pretty by aholes like Kris going in. Spencer would have kicked his girly ass over the house wall.

the thing is that at this stage nobody with half a brain would want to subject themselves to a stay in that house..... it's become a monster. it's so funny when you compare what's going in the house now with the first few shows.... nasty nick was vilified and now it's par for the course for every housemate to indulge in a little gameplaying and paranoia

I fully agree with you they choose the same type of nasty, loud mouths every series and all we get are rows and bitterness, not proper discussions or disagreements, and as much swearing as they can manage!

Spot on, why we have to sit down and watch people's ego's go off is beyond me!

BB needs to bring in some fun, and they should take inspiration from around the world when it concerns BB and really do some fun challenging tasks.

They need to bring back the days of when they could hear booing and cheering, that would sort out a lot of ego's I must say.

I agree, at first bb5 it was quite good but as the seasons get on it gets so predictable always team "good-looking" vs. the "freaks". Also i think it's gone down because of the amount of wannabes from season 5 and onwards has increased, i think people are sick of seeing the same stereotypical glamour girl, OTT gay guy, a hunk, but whats worse is they don't ever trail away from the persona i.e the "hunk" always goes with the glamour girl (maxwell+saskia, imogen+sezer, grace+mikey, ziggy+chanelle, liam+amy, jen+dale, sophie+kris)

Well they keep trying to do 'new' things and yet on anniversary week they are putting in old h/mates and old tasks, now that is getting desperate, in my opinion, it might well be very good to watch, however I still think the h/mates they have selected are an awful bunch of 'entertainers'?

Maybe a year or two 'rest' would have improved the standard

i think its a victim of its own success
you just have to read the forums people complaining to ofcom or saying how they wont watch it if so and so leaves been nasty about people in the house and god knows what else and its mostly to get the person they support to win
then producers see what people are talking about and so they think thats what people want to see and you get a vicious circle

I believe housemates are now selected at auditions, but it used to be by written application intitally. I think this is why some think BB is now worse. At auditions, producers will look for a type of person and then hope their personality is interesting whereas in a written application, an interesting person will be obvious.

I think these housemates are OK and I've enjoyed the series. I've always said that intelligent people make better TV and so I'd love 10 people like Halfwit in.

When Nush and Scott were there, some complained that they were too nice.

Nice people still have a laugh without having to verbally attack other housemates. I think halfwit summed it up the other day when he said look at us sitting here having a laugh whilst there in the bedroom slagging everyone off. He was spot on I would much rather watch them than those in the bedroom unfortunately when your in a situation where everyone is bitching around you it is hard not to get drawn into it

bb is so stupid it can't work out why the ratings are down. it is easy, there is nothing to watch, we get 1hr a day updates which bb decides on who to show in a bad light and who to look good, this is then repeated on 3 channels. and the only live feed there is after midnight when the hms are in bed or we are, as we have lives and need to go to bed and not sit up to 6am watching someone head with a fixed camera. putting in exhms will only drive more away especially nikki who has been taken out of storage wrapped in moth balls.

By the views in forums today dont you think Nicola holt from BB1 would be looked at as a freak?
Nick would be classed as vile and evil.
claire would be criticised for her fake boobs.
Anna would be seen as a gimmick ( ex nun turned lesbian )

In BB2 Stuart and ama would be classed as bullies while dean and elizabeth would be the boring ones..Helen the jadesque type of hm and narinder would be getting called a bitch.

BB3 PJ would have been accused of faking any feeling he had towards jade and when he got his BJ and dumped her he would have been called vile.
Alex the pretty boy.
Sandy would be a bully, adele tim and jade would also get called bully.
Johnny would be classed as fake and alison the stereotypical fat girl always cheerful.

So no I dont think this is whats wrong with the show.
The one series you couldnt really pinpoint stereotypes was BB4,and we all know what most people think of that series.

The ratings have plummeted for a number of reasons.

1.) Many viewers lost any trust they had in the producers after the manipulation and cover-up of the race scandal in CBB5. This also sparked the recent OFCOM craze where people write to complain to the regulators over anything they see in the show that they disagree with.

2.) The relentless meddling from the producers in BB8.

3.) The shambolic manipulation of the viewers in BB9 where Channel 4 closed the phone lines the week Luke was due to be evicted the day before Rex's girlfriend Nicole entered the house. This also only scratched the surface of the amount of special treatment that Rex was receiving. All of this added weight to the notion that z-list celebrity agents were having an increasing influence over the show.

4.) The appalling satellite shows.

5.) BB10 UK being the first BB series in the world not to feature a 24 hour Live Feed. Add to this the fact that Channel 4 are attempting to claim government money and this stinks of Channel 4 attempting to cover up another scandal.

6.) The overwhelming evidence that the BB10 housemates are a group of media agency recruits.

Exactly right.
Id also add to this the CH4 scheduling.
ie : highlights moving to a 10pm spot and live feed starting at past midnight.

Theres quite a few other reasons, which all adds up to a running down of the production of the show.

I do also lay a small part of the blame on fans who seem caught up and obsessed with teams rather than individuals.

i think figures are down because the programme is reaching its sell by date. Very few programmes can sustain constantly high viewing figures, even Corrie and Eastenders are suffering.

I think this is why:

1. No LF
2. Being on for 10 years
3. Running out of original ideas
4. Bad avertising
5. No publicity in newspapers, magazines ect...

Its got nothing to do with the divides or arguments, we had that from BB3 onwards (mostly BB5-BB7 and they were massive hits).

People are saying that BB is falling bad, but thinking about it when BB started in 2000 it got an average of 4.6m, and now its at 2-2.5m.

I 2000 in EE, im sure that ratings were 15-17m, and now they are 8-9m, so its obvious that loads of shows are losing viewers.

So looking at this, EE is losing viewers at the same rate as BB.

personally I think it's down to the fact that there are no genuinelly funny characters in the show anymore. Brian from BB2 was really funny and there have been others in later series but for the last few years there have only been a few moments of individual humour but no real constantly funny characters.
I think the show would be a success if they had some big characters, the type of people you would meet in real life and could really take to, not these weirdos and loudmouths who you would cross the street to avoid.

it was jade and shilpa shetty and the bullying/ racist triade and the scandal and fall out - the PC brigade ruined the ratings and made BB seem a shameful dirty show...

it's tainted
and the lack of freedom it has as a genre now means it cannot court controversy any more
