Default Priorities in Charity

I was talking to someone from a childrens' charity on the way home today and she mentioned how animal charities are the most donated-to in the country (I believe the RSPCA gets more than the NSPCC, for example).

And I just thought that was wrong - I mean sure, sick and mistreated animals is a terrible thing, but surely less important than the welfare of human beings, let alone children?

So yeah, it got me thinking about other charities that aren't really as important as the others - and thought I'd ask if any of you have any that you would see as 'less important'.

there is so many worthwhile charitys i personally cant give to them all so i give to the ones that i have a personal reason to support first such as cancer ones, heart foundation, and domestic abuse ones
the british public are huge big animal lovers but i think a lot of people dont like to think of child abuse going on for example

I wouldn't say any charity is less important to me! I just like to think my money would be better spent and would have more of an impact on an animal charity rather than like cancer research. This thread could be a platform for some sort of arguing eeeekk

charitys like the cancer ones not only pay for people to sit in labs coming up with a cure they do things like running hospics which without those a lot of people would live out the last of their life stuck in a hospital bed

Hmm yes, I guess with animal charities it's easy to see where your donations are being spent (either on food, vaccinations, veterinary care, shelter, workers etc.).

But I dunno, I guess what I'm trying to say is that ultimately I find it wrong that animals are more cared-about by the charity donors of the country than abused children.

Yeah I know but some people on here may just take my opinion completely the wrong way. I've lost family members to cancer before and I know how important it is to donate to cancer charities but I dunno I just see looking after animals as an easier option to achieve.

I'm not telling the UK public where the money must go, I'm telling you where I think it should go.

Welcome to the idea of debate.

It's not deluded to think of change. If I accepted everything that is currently happening in the world, and did not question a thing, or disagree with anything, that'd essentially be me pissing on democracy.

I think childrens charities are more important than animal charities, to the extent that I think that the fact that the RSPCA getting more money than NSPCC is wrong.

This is a debate, if you disagree with my viewpoint, then say so, don't just say "you can't say that, it's the way things are Young Shaun (by the way, stop calling me that)".

Hmm, never really thought about it. I'd hate to be a campaigner like the sort that stand around town all day trying to convince people to donate to their charity, because essentially they're ignored, and I'm not very good at talking to people I don't know.

Ironically I've volunteered at an animals' kennels before

yes we are in real life too good fo you if you want to donate to animals charitys more so than others but instead of trying to force your views on others by basically ignoring others points and just saying yours try backing it up so it actually makes for a discussion

there is lots of ways you could give time i wouldnt want to stand on the street either how about charity shop work (i know its not for everyone though) i am going to be hopefully doing some volunteer work at the local womens refuge when my daughter starts school full time cos its one of those that are higher in my priority due to personal experiences
