Is it Rascist to call someone "Black", for example, if you were at a party, and forgotton someones name, would it be acceptable to say, "What do you call him, no no, not him, the black man?"

What do you think?

Are we presuming there is only one "black man" at this party?

I meant as in you were pointing in the general direction of a black man, then the person you were talking to thought you were asking the name of the white man (say they were both talking)

I hate it when people tell you off for saying something like the black guy? we were told in school once that you should describe them by what they are wearing and not thier colour? which makes noe sence cause we all wear the same thing?

How would you distinguish someone from a group of white people?

Surely you'd just be describing the guy whose name you had forgotten?

It's stupid when people tip toe around issues like this. Would it be better to say "that guy whose skin is of a darker tone" or "the guy that isn't white"?

It isn't racist to call someone black, because that is what they are, no?

depends on the situation. I'd only call them a black person anyway if that was a distinguishing feature, just like a blond haired person in a group of people with brown hair, a woman with a load of men or a shorter person amongst taller people.

I might say "the blonde woman" or the "short guy" or "the guy in the white jacket". I suppose everyone is different.

That would be highly unlikely. Same would go for black or white though don't you think? I mean, if they all had the same hair they were all the same size and they were all wearing the same outfit and they were all black or white, then what would you do?

I would just say 'Black' person... black people are not offended or embarrassed at the fact they are black, and will not be offended if you call them black. Therefore just call them black, I am sure they have noticed and got used to the fact their skin colour is of a certain colour.

Exactly. People these days are so scared of offending others, they are now worried about whether describing someone as "black" is the political correct term to use.

Has anyone seen the episode of Extras where Maggie dates a black guy, but in the end drives him away because she's so scared of saying anything that could be portrayed as racist? This reminds me of that.
