Default Housemates with thick accents.

There have been a few this year.....Carly, Lisa (of course), and David to name but a few.

Whose is the thickest, do you think?

This is a terrible thread. Why on earth would you judge someone by thier accent? Get a grip.

it's called social linguistics - a few accents and or dialects are overt prestige whilst most of the rest are covert prestige.

Unfortuntaley we are all judged on our accents and especially dialects.

As posted already there have been a fair few 'strong' accents/dialects in the house.

Freddie certainly has one of the thickest accents/dialects in there.

I like them.

Sometimes it takes me a day or two to understand an accent. I love all the new phrases that I become aware of. And the new words.

I really liked Karly's, she had a lovely way of speaking, very colourful and melodic.

I haven't heard much of the Yorkshire one before, so I really enjoy listening to David.

I'm also intrigued by Hira's.

Are both of you intellectually challenged?

A thick accent is one that is very pronounced, is it not? How is that judging anyone?

Sorry that neither of you understood the question.

I agree. It's very interesting having these thick accents on the show. Maybe they can start getting some more unusual ones on from abroad.

I find the house mates that mumble a lot harder to understand than those with thick accents.

Rodrigo has a very pronounced accent and yet I never have a bother understanding him, Siavash's accent is a lot closer to received pronunciation but as he mumbles a lot I do find myself needing the subtitles they give him. David, Lisa, Karly, Sree and Charlie may all have more obvious accents, but I never need subs to understand them.

er connie, i think it's your use of the pejorative adjective 'thick' to describe accents. It does have connotations and etc.
