Ok here's a short story i found

"Definition of a Haunted House"
by Jim Warfield
I live in and make my living from this "Haunted House", the Ravens Grin Inn, I take people through it 301 nights of the year, and have been doing just this for 16 years.
When I first got the house some of its former tenets came down to sort of warn me about the unexplainable events here that they had to endure before finally finding someplace else to live.
I had no opinion concerning the "Supernatural", and saw most of these stories as people's attempts to get some attention, or they were very depressed or had just come home from the funeral of a close friend and were engrossed in thoughts of mortality and eternity, then they see a ghost!?
After I finally got open, I was hearing the same story from the people coming through my place concerning the appearence of a ghostly lady in the northeast corner of the wine cellar below the basement.
Large groups would tell me that they saw her, then a month later more would be saying the exact same thing, same description of her, same location of origin in the room!
these groups couldn't possibly know each other to get a "story" put together, these people were from opposite directions of the compass from here and many miles distant.
I was starting to consider believing, "something"?
I would tell those coming here for tours about the things that went on here , and for many years not really very much did, so the time spent telling them was very short. I would say, "I don't make up these stories, because if I did, they would be better stories!"
Then 6 years ago after an old woman stopped and told me about her Father's 1925 speakeasy business in the wine cellar being ruined by a ghost appearing from the northeast corner of a lady in a white dress,we had some strange things happen in that wine cellar that scared away four of my employees, permanently!
I tend to believe people when they have no motive to tell you a ghost story, or maybe you have to cajole it from them, or I witness their whole demeanor change because they have just had such an experience.
I try to tell as much of this haunted history of the house as is humanly possible during any one tour of this place, I use all the details and facts I can to allow the listener to make up their own mind, I know very well, myself that details catch many liars when things begin to contradict one another. I want them to see that I am more than willing to allow this sort of scrutiny of the event, because I believe the things I tell about here have all actually happened.
The story about the skull rolling across my front room actually happened . I can come up with the eventual names of almost all of the people who were there that night, if anyone wants to check out my version or my truthfullness.
I have recently had two people here filming documentaries on this house and myself. I fill up an hour and a half of tape telling about this house's haunting now. Most of this tape is on some cutting room floor because their requirements limited their finished product to a mere 15 minutes, I have a copy of the master tape, it's just me , sitting in a chair telling all that I know about this haunted house. I was told tonight , when typed into a transcript, it took 25 pages!
Yes, I admit it, I am a "creative" person by alot of people's standards, but I would not waste anyone's time telling made-up stories that would serve no purpose toward the knowledge of this other plane of existence. I want to know what all of these things are and how they work myself.
Some patterns have been sort of developing, some very strange patterns , the likes of which I have never read , nor heard of before.
One such pattern seems to be of a like-genetic-type when it comes to seeing a supernatural being. Two people having extreme experiences here share the ethnic backround as the ghost appears to have.
Another strange item that I have not heard or read of before is the witness to a supernatural sighting being totally in a state of high-humor, laughing so as to weaken the knees, then it happens, a ghost or an orb appears!
Yes, I do live in this house, my Great-grandfather Ely was a bartender in this very house in 1910 (he didn't own it) and I do have a few nights of the year that I do feel uneasy, like someone is looking over my shoulder.
I felt this for two weeks after the War-lock Psychic told me about "Evil" Frank, the ghost of what seems to be a serial-killer and his three victims behind my walls!
The walls of the wine cellar are huge rocks and the house sits ontop of the wine cellar, with a floor 24 feet below the earth, I won't be doing any "exploritory" digging anytime soon!

What is scary is the way schools will go overboard celebrating an event that commemorates evil and all that entails, but will not allow any mention of Christmas or Christianity.

What is scary is the way parents let their children do Trick or Treat, an American custom, which is in effect blackmail. Pensioners are terified, children are put at riisk (Rasor blades in apples, narcotics sprinkled on sweeties, children invited into the hiomes of strangers etc)

Halloween is a scary time apart from any supernatural activity.

Do you know what or children are up to this halloween ?

I was a well brought up Sunday school girl, and as I am sure you know, the church festival which lead to the whole halloween thing is All Saints day. (Or All Souls day) This is celebrated on Novemeber 1st.

The mediaeval superstitions which grew around this supposed that on the eve of this most holy of days it would be a well dodgy around and about, as the evil spirits took this last opportunity to wreak havoc upon the populace.

I did hold a few Halloween parties with my friends in our garage as a child. They consisted of dressing up as witches, being very silly, and for some obscure reason, apple bobbing!

We also had, on November 4th, mischeif night. Here one indulged in such time worn traditions as ringing doorbells and legging it, or lifting gates off their hinges. On one memorable occasion we floor bagged the vicar at GFS. Aaah, happy days!

What I really don't like is this trick or treating. It's american, imported, and has no relevance to our own traditions. Have a bit of fun by all means, but knocking on doors for money or sweets is alien, and unless accompanied by a responsible adult (who should know better) it's daft.

All of which doesn't mean to say I don't like a good scary story!

Personally I am not too keen on Halloween because (AND NOW I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A DEEP DARK SECRET - WHAT NOT THAT SECRET AS ALL MY FRIENDS NOW). I am absolutely and totally TERRIFIEshocked: of bats in any shape or form. The very idea gives me the screaming heebie jeebies.

I now its stupid, but I can even look at pictures of them and if they appear on TV well it just gets turned over. I am such a bad mother that when the kids were small I wouldnt even take them into the nocturnal house at the zoo in case I saw those things that cannot be named. WHAT AN ADMISSION from a grown up woman who should know better.

Spiders I can put up with but them other things well they just make me go.

End of confession

Bats in this country are harmless. Bram Stoker did a huge diservice to these mammals

I would suggest you look at this site, for the Bat Conservation Trust

Nothing will come out of your computer and attack you you will be quite safe.

The site even gives information on how you can help these fascinating and misunderstood creatures.

What is REALLY scary is that you think schools do this !
My school is not alone in it's avoidance of Halloween as a time for celebration and has prayers at the end of every day as well as prayers at Assembly 4 days a week. All religions are included in the curriculum at different times during the year but Christainity is the ongoing .It is not a Catholic school either. just an ordinary state Primary.

Get your facts straight please.

I totally agree with you in this area Sticks. Our cars were covered in flour and egg one Halloween night when I was in t he shower and could not answer the day. Mr. Boris was not amused and an ekderly neighbour had 'allsorts' pushed through her letterbox and was very frightened. It is a tradition that should definately have stayed in the US.

But there have been schools who would not hold a "Christmas" party on ther grounds that it would offend those of other faiths and referred to it as a "Mid Winter party".

And of course there was that head mistress in a London School who banned her children from attending a free performance of Romeo and Juliet on the grounds it was too hetrosexist and did not present a positive light on homosexuality

O chill out Sticks your wagging finger posts are scaring me more than Halloween. I would have thought you would have loved it being into graveyards and that. Or camping out on Pendle Hill Heres a couple of loverly furry creatures for you.

But bats should not be maligned the way they are by the horror films.

Bats are your friend

Bats are nice

Bats are harmless

Bats are a protected species

BATS ARE HORRIBLE I HATE THEM

As has been said before I have a terrible phobia about the little creatures. They may be a protected species, but I need protecting from them if you want to see the sight of a grown woman going to pieces just put a picture in front of me and as for the smilies on this thread they are giving me the screaming heebie jeebies. Think I'll go and rescue a few spiders from the bath, I like them

Thats just one case Sticks, you would'nt have heard about it if most schools were like that would you?!

At my school We didnt often say prayers in assemblys but we learnt about all religions, and for GCSE RE we looked mainly at all aspects of Christianity, they certainly didnt avoid anything as I got an A!

& my school was just an ordinary comp too.

Please check out the actual facts here

If you look at the site, you will see how harmless bats really are. They need not be feared and they will not as some believe get in your hair.
