Default Why do I like Freddie?

I cannot explain the enormous popularity of Freddie with the viewers, popularity which looks as if it will continue this week.
All I can do is quote a very small sample of one: namely me.
I am a very old, very intelligent, socialist of working-class origin.
Freddie is a public school/Oxford educated rich Tory.
I should hate and despise him, but I don't,and I hope he stays on to the end to interest and intrigue me.

LOL at this sentence, good luck with that, Charlie and Sophie are by far the two most popular HMs with the general public, by far.

HW's legion of a few hundred nerdy, weird, lonely posters who descend forums and spew away propoganda, lies, false claims and try and garner bandwagon fans are a sad minority.

The viewers don't support or like him, infact many even dislike him. He hasn't been cheered on ANY eviction night, and was booed lately too.

The few hundred forum spammers on TiBB/DS etc who are older, weird, pervy, nerdy people in the main (Just like Freddie/Marcus/Siavash; no coincidence, like for like ehhh ...) won't matter.

Charlie: 40, 000 + fans on facebook
Halfwit: Under 1000, and declining

General public vote and chav vote reign supreme. Nerds, weirdos and pervs don't win BB. They sure make good nerdy forum worship though.

Actually, Bradford, you are being patronising, but I will excuse you for being so disgustingly young!
I am somewhat older than 64 (what made you choose that age) but can still tie my own shoelaces.

Lisafan
You are indulging in wishful thinking. Only real votes count and he has won so many times and will again this week.
Your tone of voice and over-casual choice of target does remind me of someone - yes, of course - it's Lisa.

My guess is it was a simple sum 2009 - 1945 (in your user name) = 64?

Sme here actually, in that I cannot name why I have taken to him so much. When he first went in I rolled my eyes at his description. I would never have though that in this year's BB I'd be supporting an upper class Tory MP wannabe. There's just something about his personality that appeals to me.

Well done Long Run for the arithmetic. He failed to link the date with my declared political affiliation, probably too young to know the history.

Surely socialism is a philosophy rather than a political affiliation? (EDIT:You make reference to half wit and Tory origins now that IS a political affiliation.)

Now don't spoil it, Long Run,it is perfectly possible to be affiliated to a philosophy.
In any case socialism is rather more than a philosophy, more a theory of living with strong political and economic influences.

Where is everybody? I wish you were all up at 5am like me! Finally, the kind of discussion I would LOVE to have ...

Anyway, great OP ... totally agree, although I do think if Freddie really thought about it, being a Tory just cannot match his real ideals. He said last night 'to know all is to forgive all', which I like. He has a proper socialist heart, if only he knew it.

I like Freddie cos he's kind, honest, polite and I find him funny

He stays calm when being shouted at/poked in the head.

I'd love him to win it, to see team ******* faces,

but cant see

that happening, Bea going in has made sure of that.....

she knew exacty what she was doing and still does,

now her "besty mates" are a cockroach & mr thick".....her

words, not mine

An interesting OP...I, like a lot of people I know, have little in common with Freddie but still like him the most. I'm vegetarian, anti-hunting, broadly left-wing and grew up at a time when hippies and their philosophy of 'positivity' was seen as a joke by my generation, who embraced negativity and isolation (punk).

As you grow older you realise that being a nice person is one of the most important things in the world. Freddie is a nice person (one of the few this year) and like all of us he is flawed - that is why he is popular.

A lot of the vicious posts on here are a sort of joke villainy (trying too hard), but if you reply calmly, many people who appear vehement initially, start to apologise for any offence. There are always exceptions of course

I'm honestly more interested in RCW1945's age at this point. You're so mysterious about it and I can't focus on the topic.

Do we know what 'RCW' stands for?

Of course!

Keep thinking the W stands for 'war'. 64's not 'very old'...

fallen and halfacrown (that nickname dates you)
Please stop discussing my person, you will be making me blush soon.
RCW is just a nickname and stands for nothing but 1945 was the year of the post-WW2 Labour landslide victory which led to the founding of the NHS.
Whether it is old or not is a matter of attitude I suppose, but I am 67.
Anyway I'm glad my OP pleased a few of you.
When I started watching BB1 I thought it was a fascinating experiment. It is still intriguing at times but I think the nature of the selected HMs has changed and not for the better. A better spread of ages and intelligences would not be unwelcome.

Here's another Freddie quote which supports moonballon's and halfacrown's comments.
When in the depth of his anguish he said, "She is awful......no, she did an awful thing, that's a better way to put it".
That thoughtful sentiment is one that many posters on this board should remember.
