Default PLEASE READ YOUR SECURITY IS AT RISK

A couple of weeks ago the database of this site was accessed and members email addresses and passwords were stolen. Since yesterday I have suddenly been hit with several fraudulent emails, sent from different countries, saying that I was owed money and requesting personal and financial information. It can only be linked to the breach of security on this site so if you start getting the same then email mark@thisisbigbrother.com and INSIST you want to know who was responsible for accessing the database. WE ALL NEED TO KNOW WHO ACCESSED THE DATABASE FOR PERSONAL SAFETY. Mark knows but for some reason he won't release the information. Two emails I sent him have been ignored. If ANYONE receives suspicious emails report it IMMEDIATELY to Mark and maybe then he will stop treating members like sh*t and release the information we NEED to know.

This post is for information only and is not open for discussion.

Spammers can and will obtain lists of people to send their messages to. Some will target forums members email lists, others buy them from semi legitimate sources. these are made up from members list from some sites that sell their memberships lists(expired memberships or query lists) on to businesses that acquire and sell email addies.

Another method they use is to run a program which will generate email addies, they bulk mail to them and look for replies, especially unsubscribe requests. ot shows that the email that replied is active and they will then place this addy onto an"active" list they will either target or sell on to other spammers and bulk mailers.

Saying the spam you received is directly as a result of the hacking on this site cannot be proven. Unless of course the email you used on this site was only used for this site and no other. And the spam was addresed to that specific email address. Check the address it was sent to if that is the case, and if it is a non generic type email addy( me2@hotmail.co.uk as oppsed to me2@aname.fsent.co.uk).

You could also look at the source of the email and run a trace back then complain to the originating source ISP.

I dont really want to get into a discussion about this but seeing as you mentioned it I have 2 email addresses, one I use for personal mails and one I use for sites like this. My personal one NEVER receives spam and the one I use on here has never received spam either until after the security was breached so I think it is fairly safe to assume the fraudulent emails are definately linked to tha accessing of the TIBB database. There would be no point in obtaining members email addresses if they weren't going to be used for some sort of gain i.e. selling them on to spammers.

This problem is not necessarily the fault of this forum. I (and I know of others) have being receiving fraudulent e-mails long before I became a member of TiBB.

The mere fact you got those emails since the TIBB database was accessed shows the lack of security was responsible. Ok you might think it amusing now but wait until you get over 2000+ spam emails a month, I can guarantee you'll be changing your email address asap!

Use a password that does not have anything to do with you and your personal life, people do that and get in trouble

Im sorry but in that case you are just very very lucky.

I have 2 emails just the same, one I normally use to sign up for various sites and one I use for family and friends. Yet both still recieve spam. Granted the one I use for sites gets more, but my personal ones also get it, and I have never used them for anything.
