Default The Ordinary Boys cashing in

Prestons band, The Ordinary Boys are cashing in on his appearance in BB by re-releasing their biggest hit, Boys Will Be Boys.

Now, Im a big fan of the band and have both their albums, but I think this is plain wrong.

The bands credibility has gone out the window with this.

Well it was inevitable and proably their record companies decision. Preston went in the house to boost the profile of his band and I say good luck to him, it's a hard business and if it gives them an advantage in a competitive market then power to them.

What do you expect?

Do you blame the band for cashing in? I sure don't.

It's hardly a surprise that Boys Will Be Boys is going to be re-released. I don't really see what's wrong with that to be honest - he has obviously gone into the house to gain publicity for his band - they're all in there for some sort of promotion. BTW, The Ordinary Boys had not had their contract renewed by their record label before he went into the house - I bet they won't be short of offers now.

I've no doubt that You Spin Me Round will be re-released as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kandyfloss's song soon came out (fingers crossed I'm wrong about that though)!

I have all three of their albums and all they've proved so far is that a bunch of chavs have cashed in on trying to be mods. Their music is derivative of the Jam, Madness and the Specials with a lot of cover versions thrown in for good measure. Of course they are going to cash in on Preston being on the chavviest of chavvy programmes. What do you expect of a band willing to do a cover version of Lady Sovereign's 9 to 5? Good luck to them, their support band Kaiser Chiefs has already eclipsed them in the fame game.

BTW you can already download a one and a half minute version of the Kandyfloss single from C4's site. It's all that it's worth.

I think Preston might even go it alone after bb.

The Ordinary Boys' Boys Will Be Boys was a re-entry at number 33 on the charts yesterday.

I'm not surprised, Preston is very popular, & there could be a Solo launch because he aspires after Morrisey & Buddy Holly he told Jim -but he also said he loves the boys in his band & wants Chantelle to meet them. CHantelle was given a copy of I want it yesterday, & Preston has requested her to perform the song todat for his Birthday! So Kandifloss or Chantelle WILL release that song 100%. sorry, but this money spinning is getting worse the inevitable DVD from Fix It is also certain (I.M.O.) with the loss of the "red button" which in my opinion is a disgrace - the tv coverage over the weekend was robbery.

On that note, can I just say that the commentry thread was Admin Team's idea, not mine. Kaz asked me if I would mind doing it that way. I did it for the common good of forum members not personal glory or anything of the sort. I hope they don't do that again!!!

Cheers
Dave

Number 33 would suggest that he's not that popular. It's probably sold a few thousand copies, if that. The Dead 60s do a far better job.

I said 're-entry' in my post before the one you've quoted.
