I have a hobby to take pictures and put them on flikr, I'll stand in a city centre and just snap people...
Is This ok?
You get lots of groups on flikr who like looking at like people in uniform etc.
What if someone liked a person in a sexual way due to their clothing. and you were taking photographs of everyone wearing a jacket of that material in the street...
What are the morals in that?
Knowing that we just like to look at photo's all the time on flikr about different things

I am not up to speed with current changes in terms of this but since the Security laws changed due to the terrorism acts, laws have been changing regularly regarding this.

Now... there are some places where it is a complete no no. You may find in... actually without going to far on the subject, do the following

Search google with "UK Public photography" maybe add forums to that.

Now... unless somebody complains, don't worry BUT some photographers have been stopped by the police. I have been stopped by a security guard in a shopping centre. I wasn't taking a photography of people but a lift.

So look it up. I am not clear on recent laws but things have been changing and some photography groups have been protesting against this (human rights, civil liberties etc.

next is the subject of morality. Is it right to take a photograph of somebody if they are unaware of it... Street photography... you're not alone. Lots of people love taking pictures of people, especially when they travel overseas and see new cultures.

If you are happy by treading that thin line... go for it.

Most people wont mind being photographed in Street scenes, where you aren't targeting anyone in particular, if they do mind they will ask you what you are doing etc, if they object and its a digital camera, offer to delete the photo in front of them.

If you are taking random snaps of people on cafe fronts etc particualrly if there are only one or two people in the frame then its polite to ask if they would mind being photographed. You may get one or two strange looks.

If you are taking photos like a tourist for example taking snaps of troops on PD's etc, (the guards at Buck House etc, its part of the job description), it shouldn't be any major problem either.

Wow Dixie you know your stuff I hate those wet look leggings, rather be leather pants lol...

Thanks for the reply...I remember reading the other day about the new laws some was:
No taking photo's of Constables (Police)
Intelligence Agents though how you would know that is a bit sketchy
And other civil service...

I was taking pics of a man and a woman once (Mid 20's)
and I asked if I can take a pic of them, they were ice skating...
And one at Buckinham Palice another young couple on rollor blades

I like taking candid photos of people too. I use a camera with a screen that can flip up so you can use it as a waistlevel viewfinder. You can also buy a flip up screen to attach to compacts. This makes it less obvious that you are taking a photo, so people won't be bothered or give you funny looks. One of the greatest photographers of all time, Henri Cartier Bresson, took excellent street photos/candids of people.
