Default Is GaGa really that talented?

Came from money anyway, had quite a privileged upbringing. Lyrically she is not too strong. Seems she had quite an ego and already see's herself as an icon. Has to try to shock by the way she dressed, but they make her look silly most of the time. Quite the narcissist is some ways. Her latest song is particularly shocking. The way she is going I can't see her lasting too long. She took a while to make it over here really, and she has not had as big impact as she probably hoped.

I do think she's got a great voice and I like pretty much all her songs, but I'm not sure if she'll still be around in 5 years time put it that way lol.

Bit of a flash in the pan I reckon. But I am a fan.

Yeah seems so. Unless she totally reinvents herself or something.

I think so. She has a very wide vocal range, she just doesn't choose to display it on a lot of her current work. Lyrically, she the probably the best singer-songwriter in the mainstream at the minute. Her look is quirky and definitely attentionseeking but I think at the end of the day when she has consistently produced such solid bodies of work, it makes up for it.

Nah just lyrically she does not seem to strong to me. And if she can sing, she is wasting it with stupid things like "ohhh la ga ga ga" in her songs.

Well she writes all of her songs, she's a great singer and puts on amazing shows. But as much as I adore her and her music, the ridiculous attention whoring outfits she's been wearing the past few months have just annoyed me (her late 2008/early 2009 style ftw).

thats only a hook and there's a lot more to it than just random syllables. Clubbers are gonna eat that up, its the perfect chant, easy to remember people everywhere will be singing along which makes for a very catchy song. She knows what makes a smash hit. Lyrically, I can assure you, if you have listened to more than her singles she is VERY strong.

I find it hard to believe that's her in the video Darenn posted. I find the Lady GaGa image ridiculous and impossible to like, if she keeps that up then she will just be another fad that dies out by this time next year.

So do we just accept she is a shallow artist that feeds crappy lyrics to clubbers?

Tbh I think she is really talented but goes about it in the wrong way. Sometimes I think the ways she acts is really fake and not her but no one really knows the real her. If she was a bit more normal, people would be able to relate to her and then she would have more fans. But then again saying this, she could loose fans who like her 'creativeness'. So I am stuck really.

well as I just said, if you have listened to her whole body of work, which you clearly havent I think it's safe to assume, you would hear a lot more than that.

So if she has talent, then why churn out the crappy songs. In it for the money mostly maybe? Also she tries way too hard.

But then why would somebody go listen to the rest of her stuff if they're unimpressed by the stuff they release? Generally speaking, artists release songs off their albums that they want people to like best about that album. I really had no idea Lady GaGa could sing; that video Darenn posted took me by surprise. Lady GaGa is a gimmick that'll be long forgotten if she doesn't reinvent herself every so often, because it'll get stale.

Well naturally I didn't expect him to have heard it, if he didn't like what she chose to put out there why would he have. She is however releasing a ballad off her new album called Speechless so hopefully that will give a lot more people a taste of what she's capable of.

I happen to think she is good BTW. SHe just figured out, how to stand out from the pack. There are a lot o people that can sing really well, but they have to have something extra to be a superstar. ANd credit to her, she has figured out a way to do it.

Becuase she's all about the fans and she knows that's what's going to please them. That's what any artist does, they try to appeal to the mass which is what she's doing by releasing all up tempo numbers.

That's what I think too.
Like Madonna, she'll have to reinvent herself every time to stay current.

I do think that Gaga has a good voice. To say that she has a wide range is ludachris. people like Mariah and Beyonce have a wide range.
She stays in the 2-3 octave range most of the time. Which is fine.

I also think she is really good at creating instant hit songs.
She knows what will go down well in the pop culture zetgeist that has become mainstream music and what will sell.
Gary, I would argue though that her more "Serious" songs like 'Speechless", "Again, Again" however prove that lyricaly she is not strong at all.
People in the mainstream like Ne-Yo and Keri Hilson are better lyricists really, if you listen closely.
But let's be honest, none come lose to those musicians workin outside of the mainstream like the Artic Monkey's, Rufus Wainright, Tori Amos, or countless others.

But where Gaga excels over most of her counterparts today in the mainstream is her ability to create the sense of intrigue/ fascination in her and her work.
She is a fantastic business lady.
Her outragous, houte couture outfits.
Her sometimes crazy antic's on shows such as her appearance on Jonathan Ross.
Her "Haus of Gaga/La maison de Gaga".
Her fascination with Andy Warhol and his ideals on the modern quest for fame.
Her creative above-the-norm videos like "Papparazzi" and "Bad Romance".
These are all truly, I believe, just publicity devices to fuel the crazy, kookoo image of Gaga. And thus to create public interest in her.
"What will she do next?" etc.
But, this could all very well be argued against by a Gaga fan/representative as Gaga just being "Artisic" too and everything she does comming under the banner of "Art".
SO smart!

The best example of this I can find is the issue of whether or not Gaga could possible be a hermaphrodite or not.
She has Never publicly come out to say that she is or is not.
This is such a smart move I think.
Whatever it does, it gets people talking about her.
"Is she a man? I herad she was" and all that.
And as they say, any publicity is good publicity.

I like Gaga.
I like her catchy music, despite it's obvious downfalls.
I do not like the fact that she is an obvious fame *****.
But I respect her for being a very smart business lady and playing the media and mainstream pop-culture like she does her piano.

I also believe that to say that she is a flash in the pan is a bit premature.
As I said before, she's smarter then most mainstream artists out there.
She can certainly manage I long lasting career I think if she contines to be as smart about managing her public image and how to create public interest in her and her music.

*ludicrous
yews she does tend to stay in that range on most of her work, but if you look at some of her old work, or her live performances you can see she can stretch out of that range with a ease.

"coz I'm bluffin' with my muffin"

says it all really

She can't sing, she is autotuned like mad

Her songs sound the same

She has about a million gimmicks

In all I think shes just a massive gimmick with no talent, and once the bubble bursts she'll just be spat out into obscurity like everyone else who tries to be different
