Shaun's got a point though, I don't root through the sports section of tibb because I don't know anything about sports and to reply back with 'Get over yourself, twat'....I thought you coulda replied with something less troll-y.

You're making "study album covers" sound dull. It's called enlightenment, Chewy, give it a try sometime.

The point really is this : I like to go out and seek music. I don't wait for music to come to me through the conventional methods. Because there's only so much I can hear that way. Most of it shite.

I agree that people should have a background knowledge of previous music before saying a full opinion, but at the same time it's not their fault if they don't like the older or less mainstream music. It's their choice... kindof.

I make no sense.

You could have done it better though, If I couldn't see your username I'd have thought you were Patrick. You should have argued the points he presented rather then just reply like that because that's ironically made you look the twat by not being able to argue properly.

I'm not having a go I'm just saying you should have handled it better because you put yourself in the wrong now.

EDIT: Context plays a role in insults too, he's wasn't that bad because it was in context but an out of the blue' Get over yourself, Twat' just sounds so.....Patrick.

Thing is a lot of people are young members who are only posting album covers from new artists that are their personal favourtes not through choice but because they simply have not heard enough. Do you really think Leona Lewis's Echo represents a historic or particularly distinct album cover? Or is meaningful in it's design in any way?

Because I listen to it to do what exactly? Sweat furiously and feel unease?

Seriously great music was made before the times we're discussing for "chilling out" - see the stereotype of 'stoner music', stuff from Hendrix, the Stones, all sorts of weird acid-trippy ****...

I'm not criticising all of modern music, because a lot of it is still good, but to say "I can't be bothered" to explore older music just really irritates me - it has a legacy for a reason.

Good music dosn't sound dated. I don't even understand the term 'dated music'. What is dated music? How does music sound older?

And yes, it's fully within peoples right to only listen to new music but really it's you that's loosing out. Some of the best music I have ever heard has come from strolling into independent record stores and buying CD's from artists I have never heard of.
The older it gets, the more dated it becomes...

I think it's good that people listen to music from the past but sometimes people in the present find it hard to relate to things from before their time.

I hope you have some appreciation as to where i'm coming from.

Well, I'm irritated by people who think they're above other people, Shaun obviously does, using words like "Enlightened", he should realise that he is posting on a BIG BROTHER FORUM, where not everyone listens to all genres of music, therefore he should have expected people who would post recent album covers, and then if he had expected it, he shouldnt see the need to have a go at someone just because their music taste isnt as extensive as his.

That good enough?

I think there are some things it's always impossible to relate to, Doug, such as the experience of seeing it live or the politics behind the songs (such as civil rights movements - you can't really feel the ongoing contextual change of songs such as Bob Dylan or Sam Cooke) but you can still appreciate the art of it, the sound of it, the poetry of it.

I know what you are trying to get but saying 'the older it gets, the more dated it becomes' is just speaking purely in chronocological terms. How on earth has year got a direct influence how much meaning a song has?

It's all about the songs and personal intrpretation of them. Or in the case of less lyric centric generes, just how the tunes make you feel.

I know it's a cliche but music is timeless.

You just called on me for "using words like Enlightened" (I didn't, by the way, it was enlightenment if we're going to be pedantic), Chewy, if I'm not allowed to dumb it down for you then I'm inbetween a rock and hard place, here, really, aren't I?

How is Shaun putting himself above others by preaching enlightenment and exploration? That's something everybody can do. And something everyone should do, in my opinion.

That's like saying people who read factual books are putting themselves above others because they dare to stuff some more information into themselves.

Again, there is no way to say this without sounding like a music nazi but for most of the young ones it really is all down to age.

Do you reckon they will all be into Leona Lewis into their twenties? Not a chance.
