Don't you think that mental health and motivation should play a factor?

California and Texas still carry out the death penalty and don't they have among the highest homicide rates in the developed world?

A few years ago i would have said NO. However having lived through and seen such dramatic changes both in the vicious nature of murders and the how prolific murders now are I am forced into changing my mind.....

I no longer believe the argument that it would not be a deterent.......I think history proves that it was........Anyways deterent or not JUSTICE needs to be served for the victim and families.... My only fear is the reliability of the justice system and the possibility of innocent people being sentenced to death...

I think such a penalty should only take place with very very strong evidence......Not flimsy microscopic bits of DNA......

What if you found out your 8 year old daughter had been raped by a paedophile, and you killed him? Should you still have the death penalty?

I'd say the murder was justifiable.

I don't think you can compare one country to another country as they have different social values such as the right to own guns.....and other factors....

It's not just a question of deterent it's a question of JUSTICE being done to the victims........And to the tax payer who finances long jail terms.......We sentence the sick to death by refusing to finance expensive drugs to extend life yet give murderers a blank cheque to keep them alive in jail......Morality gone mad....

Valid points. Murder needs to be classified in a sensible way. Crimes of passion should not be regarded with the same as brutal cold blooded killing with no motive other than to commit a crime for gain or power over others......(Gang killings etc)
