Personally - I support the objections - they make sense - in these fragile times! I also hope such a building, wherever it is built - is funded by those that would use it and not the general tax-payer!

Why shouldn't the muslims have their own place of worship? It's attitudes like this that extremists can use to radicalise young muslims. According to my sources, when muslims move into an area crime rate goes down, and before he retired the owner of a Halal take away and I had great conversations about his faith and mine.

As for the offensive remark by the poster two posts above this one, this is not a case of the government being over accommmodating. It is actually the oposite as it is a government body, the MOD who is objecting to a planning application.

Isolating this community is not the way to defeat the extremists as that plays into their hands, it is integration that is the key to defeating them, as I observed with conversations with the former owner of the Halal take away.

These buildings are 100% funded by the users. Public money is not used in their construction.

are you missing the point about what Sandhurst is here?

no one is objecting to mosques per se but they do not want one in that specific location. It makes sense in this current climate. If you want a scapegoat blame extremists.

Its not about whether its a mosque, synagogue, church with spire, mandir (Hindu) gurdwara (Sikh). Its simply a security measure as the height of parts of the building, the dome and minarets, would overlook the main parade ground of the Sandhurst Military Academy. The same objections would be lodged against any building which would compromise the security in the same way.

This would allow easy observation not only of the officer recruits, training staff, visiting dignitaries, security specialists including special forces and police undercover operatives etc who go to brief the recruit officers during the course of their training. Royal family members hold numerous honorary positions in various Army regiments and as such act as dignitaries for parades and other occassions.

The Academy is also used for other training courses of Army Officers during their careers.

I know that a lot of perfectly wealthy white Brits are going to make ongoing 'white guilt' bemoaning and self-effacing apologies and fake outrage etc etc,
but,
Yeah, in this case I think it really does come down to plain and simple security risk - regardless of whatever organization.
It does become a much greater risk because it is a mosque but that is really an 'additional concern' but not even the point here.
It isn't even complicated.

I'm against all religions, mosques are not exactly small are they!! They are very dominant buildings. It's not offensive it's practical.

Quite right. Whether they build the mosque or not makes no difference. London is an inchoate smorgasboard of architectural clashes anyway. It seems even city folk can be small-minded.
