BBC
The BBC has announced a free episodic Doctor Who game for PC and Mac.

Titled Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, it will feature the current Doctor in a series of four unique adventures.

Featuring the likeness and voices of Matt Smith and Karen Gillian, the "interactive episodes" will be overseen by the show's executive staff and scripted by Waters Of Mars co-writer Phil Ford and Torchwood: Children Of Earth's James Moran.

"Children don’t just watch Doctor Who - they join in," said Who head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat. "They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories. Now, there’s something else - now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes."

Head of drama and executive producer Piers Wenger added: "There aren’t 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year. There are 17 - four of which are interactive. Everything you see and experience within the game is part of the Doctor Who universe: we’ll be taking you to places you’ve only ever dreamed about seeing - including locations impossible to create on television."

The game will be developed by Sumo Digital in collaboration with Broken Sword creator Charles Cecil.

The first episode, available for free from the BBC website, will be released in June.
I'm quite intrigued, Charles Cecil's involvement can only be a good thing as I adore Broken Sword. I wonder if this will have anything to do with the Wii and Ds games? Maybe they'll package them up with extra levels or something for the console games.

Very unusual. I'm no fan of Doctor Who, but I hope it does alright and the idea doesn't backfire like it did with the Matrix.

It is very peculiar, at first I thought they meant it was some sort of Flash based game but it seems to be a proper release albeit only free.
