Default College- Sum it up

I'm in Year 9 at the moment and am so curious about college. What happens there, is it lessons like school or are they called lectures or something? Do you have a form tutor? Are friends easy to make? Is their a certain start or finish time to your day? Do you get a lunchtime?

Thanks
Joe

I went to Sixth Form at the same school

Was basically the same - but no uniforms and more freedom around the place, and you're on a more friends term with teachers etc

But you're probably on about normal college, havnt been so don't know

Well..most of the idiots who cause trouble during school have left and only the mature ones stay on (to a degree) so Teachers get a bit more respect and give it back in return

Gotcha, and yeah, that's better. Do you know whether or not in normal college you have a set time? Like in my school you it's 8:30 start and 2:30 finish.

Yeah in any education establishment there will be a set time, but you probably wont be in as much. and you get more ''free study'' time

College is fun, tutors much more understanding with work and don't pressure you like teachers do at school if you work hard and be fair, you're treated like an adult if you act like one.

It was good for me, boring at times, but I had fun, I'm finishing my 3rd and final year there, for our first year, we could do what we want, 2nd year it got slightly more serious, but still fun, we got to go filming for a week in the countryside, and 3rd year...meh, kinda boring, but we got to go to London, see Chicago, and watch Loose Women, and were going to see Jeremy Kyle next week

I suppose it depends on what course you are on

Ohh cool, cos my school is like 5 miles away but my college is at the end of my road. Do normal college's have a canteen or do they allow you off the premises for lunch?

yeah colleges will let you off the premises because they legally can't hold you there, you don't even have to go (well you do, but you wont get punished for not going)

Your probably right my time in college was build up so much by Mates and cousins who went to college about meeting interesting people and having wild parties while learning loads which never happened. I found tutors to be less interesting in the course i did and the fellow students to have no personality i was so disappointed and was kind of heartbroken.

But is it worth going? And what sort of lunch break do you get, an hour?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I'm very curious lol

I think now there is more opportunities available to us students regarding education but we're still in the recession so jobs etc still hard to come by.

It is worth going IMO, if not just for what you learn about yourself there and lunch is usually an hour, but a tutor has the right to let you out early if they like

That's cool so say if you've been really good in your lesson then the tutor will let you out early? Awsome! There's noithing like detentions is there? I mean say if you were really bad in your lesson the tutor couldn't keep you back could they?

If you were that bad in lesson theyd probably just send you out of lesson altogether for that day, theres much more maturity involved

i never really came across any bad bad behaviour at college

Yeah, usually it depends on the workload at the time, if you dont have much they can end lessons earlier, you can be kept behind if you're behind, but usually its for your own good and if your behind on work you want to stay behind, if your bad you get diciplinary action which can lead to you being expelled, but that only happens if you are a knob xD

No at the College I go to they have three steps if you mess around first is a warning by tutor and one of the senior staff, second is a letter home to your parents then third is a meeting with parents... if the behaviour continues then the senior staff could remove the student from the course or if they show genuine remorse give them one more chance.
