It is probably IP checks.
There is obviously need for more with all the new members and such.

Yeah IP checks slow the site down a LOT.

And recently a lot of IP checks have needed to be done...this is probably the problem :/

If it is a subroutine built into vBulletin it may affect the site marginally, however if you use an independent third party site it will not affect the speed of the site.

The lag probably has more to do with the amount of animated gif signatures, increased number of members and guests online as BB approaches. length of some posts.

It could also be due to the site server itself running slow for a variety of reasons, indepth security checks, reduced bandwidth allocations etc.

That is if it even is the site itself and not the fact you have a few windows open all using flashplayer etc.
