Got to love councils. They have to be seen to be doing something, so they bring out more Local Bye Laws instead of enforcing the laws already in place. There are a couple of English councils have bye laws stating you cant walk a dog on leads longer than 2 metres.

I would prefer if they restricted the age of dog walkers. I have seen youngsters walking dogs where they had no control over a single dog. Then you get some people who do have well trained packs of dogs.

Looks like Leeds wont to asked to host any dog sledding competitions then?

Indeed it's down to each local authority that make local regulations within the frame work of what freedom the government allows.

I have a friend who walks 4 jack russel type dogs......She is quite well organise and in her 70's......

I think the law should concentrate on the size of the dogs and the age of the owners......

It should be against the law for children to walk more than one large dog......if any depending on the age/size of the child. Equally it should be against the law for a frail elderly person to walk more than one large dog.

People and indeed other peoples dogs need to be protected from those that are irresponsible in what they try to attempt.....

I am a dog owner/walker and on many occasion have been very concerned at large dogs possibly escaping from their owners.......On one occasion I just managed to save a dog I had from the jaws of a rotweiler that had broken free from a woman not strong enough to hold it........

The idea of children walking large animals is frightening both for the children and other peoples pets.......

The law needs to be more sensibly written on a national basis and then ruthlessly enforced.....
