Quote:
A probe has been launched after two horses collapsed and died in the paddock within moments of each in a freak incident at Newbury race course.

The horses were clearly seen to rear-up at the same point by the fence.

One trainer said he believed they may have been electocuted by a cable under the paddock.

For safety reasons the meeting was abandoned shortly afterwards after the first run.

A further two horses were seen to "wobble" and a lead rein on one of the dead animals was rumoured to have shown traces of burning.

An inquiry and immediate post-mortem examinations for the horses was announced.

Jonjo O'Neill, trainer of Fenix Two, said he noticed the horse in front of his, Kid Cassidy, go down on his knees before his horse was struck.

Paul Barber, owner of Denman, was in the paddock at the time of the incident. He said some people felt a "tingling" as they led horses around the paddock.

Marching Song's part-owner Graham Thorner said the fallen horse had "great potential".

It's pretty likely to be deliberate

Do you reckon? I thought it was just some genuine laziness on their behalf.

No. They're looking for who was stood near the horses in the crowd at the time as both horses reared up in the same spot.

It is strange, and depressing if it was on purpose.

Out of interest does anyone bet much? I'm a whimp these days and normally only spend about Ł30 a month (like Ł2 a race on ones that are odds out and I can make it up on)... normally get around Ł90 back though, so I suppose I still make a profit, but its mainly for the fun and getting involved. Although normally I'm the only guy in a betting shop under 60.

Other horses were injured too so I can't see this being an accident. Then again, it's horse racing.... it'll be covered up as one

Heard the latest - there was supposedly a broken cable under the paddock

I've never heard such bollocks in my life

What's the bet Kid Cassidy goes on to win the Supreme Novices Hurdle, 40/1 everywhere the other week, down to 20/1 at William Hill now.. Tony Mccoy rates the horse, fairytale story written all over it.. Horse pulled out the paddock seconds away from death to winning a massive race like that.

The electricity cable has been removed now can understand how it happened Horses are far more sensitive to electricity then Humans

It's such a corrupt sport though. Like many admittedly but it's rife in the gambling field.

OK it could have been an accident but I'm not convinced.....

It's not corrupt in that sort of way though, Fixing is always involved ( If you can call it that ).. a lot of trainers have 2/3 horses in one race and let the 100/1 shot go on and set the pace for the other horse to follow...to me it's good tactics rather then a fix they wouldn't needlessly Kill horses that make money for them and the horses in that race had the potential to go on headline bigger races in the future,

You always see Jockeys not whipping the horse at all though throughout the whole race leading easily and just holding the horse back and just letting other horses past at the line...

Isn't it known for some stable hands to be paid to give some horses drugs too though?
