The contestants are people who have come from ordinary lives to volunteer to be scrutinised by us. The problem is, that somewhere in the production company it seems that there is a hidden agenda as to who they want to be evicted / win.

There have also been concerns about the boundaries that these echelons are willing to traverse. For example the BB2 Meals for two was a blatant attempt to get serious intimate action between two housemates (Helen & Paul) This was mentioned in the press at the time. It was only the fact that Mr Paul Clarke is such a gentleman that the scheme failed.

The other boundary crossed was how much you make the contestants suffer, with BB3 it was the Bars, BB2 the Dog training task (I had to agree with Dean on that one)

It also seems that ever since BB1, there have been foul ups and inconsistancies.

I have not even begun to mention the shabby treatment of the tabloid press

So why do I watch, as you ask ?

The housemates are in a vulnrable position .

The producers of Big Brother need to be held to account

In order to have the right to do that, I need to be involved. That gives me the right to comment when things are not as they should.

Leaving the battlefield only leaves it to other's unfettered opportunities to do what they want.

Just thought I would ressurrect this thread, since everyone is complaining about BB4, and the ratings are plummeting, C4 / Endemol are resorting to gimmicks.

I predicted this in January

You did not have to be an Ola to see this fiasco coming

And I was one of the first to say so, did you believe me

Nooooooooo

Well if BB had a hidden agenda for this series, it's certainly backfired on them. For example, how is it that all the interesting house mates have been evicted after only 5 weeks? And if the double eviction week can be described as a gimmick how comes we saw the loss of Federico and Jon in one day? Unless you're suggesting BB is employing tactics to make the programme boring and to lose money and viewers, well then you might have a point

To be fair, manipulation and gimmicks are usually employed to make the program diverse and appealing. It worked well in BB 1 & 2, and it certainly saved Helen and Paul, although I admit sometimes it has not always been fair to certain contestants. But it's the nature of the BB beast I am afraid. I simply believe BB have not had a chance to really manipulate this series, and certainly not at the stage we are at now anyway. And the gimmicks have been arranged well before the show started.

Where Endemol have got it wrong for this series is with their choice and number of contestants and the nomination system; i.e. there shouldn't have been a vote until at least 2 or 3 weeks after the program began, this would have allowed Anouska to settle in more and who personally I would have liked to have seen more of.

BB will always make money, and I am certain the program will continue for many more years. I just hope next time around they get it right and learn from the mistakes of this series

And was last series so bad? I only saw it in small doses, but I would have liked to have seen more of Jade.

The problem I always have with BB, is that I am always making comparisons to BB 1 & BB 2.

Yes, I absolutely hated it, hated the gimmicks, hated the housemates and hated how Endemol had resorted to stupid tricks to try and get ratings.

BB1 will be remembered for Nasty Nick
BB2 will be remembered for H & P
BB3 will be remembered for Jade and Alex
BB4 will it be remembered for anything other than 13 nice people, getting on nicely, with nice tasks, nice rewards and nothing exiciting happening?

However with the introduction of Lisa - another gimmick - things might improve, but to be honest its tv to send you to sleep. If I'm not feeling particularly tired and its bed time - ten minutes of that lot are enough to get me yawning.

In my oppinion the answer to that is "No". At the time I was not that impressed with it, the bars annoyed me like many others. However just before BB4 started I watched the recording of BB3 all 38 hours and I was just plain facinated at watching there near human beahavour I enjoyed the repeat more than the live show itself. No one was more surprised than myself as i was tempted to dump the recordings. So I am glad I didn't.

As scathing about this series as I am I am never the less recording it and will I hope at a later date start to watch it again to see if I still react the same as I am at the moment which is quite negative.

I agree it is a pity they had the immediate nomination at the start. The gimmick backfired and has changed the nature of the show and set it on a path of self destruct.....Along with a new disease called Jon obsessional mis-spelt syndrome
