HOUSEMATES SING FOR THEIR SUPPER
Big Brother has just announced to the housemates that their next weekly task will have an operatic theme. Over the next two days Big Brother would like the group to create an eight-minute opera based on their experiences in the Big Brother house. The opera will consist of six pieces of existing classical music to which they must write their own original lyrics. All housemates must sing in the final song and at least one other song. The first five songs must feature no more than two housemates singing together, but the final song must be an ensemble effort. In keeping with the tradition of opera, the group must ensure that the opera tells a story, with a beginning, middle and end and the drama and emotion should come from the music and the singing. The housemates may practise as often as they wish, but Big Brother will expect them to perform a full dress rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon. They will then be required to perform the entire opera in a gala performance on Wednesday evening. Big Brother will provide blackboards and chalk with which to write the lyrics, but Big Brother insists that they must not be used for any other purpose. Big Brother will also provide the group with six suitably operatic costumes tomorrow. Big Brother encourages the housemates to create props and scenery by creatively using items already in the house, however, extra props and equipment may be provided at Big Brother’s discretion. The housemate’s shopping budget for next week is £45. If Big Brother is satisfied that the housemates have put enough creative effort into their opera, Big Brother will double their shopping budget to £90, and reward them with a post-performance party on Wednesday night. If, however, Big Brother is not satisfied with their performance, their shopping budget for next week will be zero and they will receive no party on Wednesday night. The six pieces of music are: 1. Bizet – Carmen – ‘Chanson du Toréador’ (duration – 52 seconds) 2. Bizet – Carmen – ‘Habanera’ (duration – 70 seconds) 3. Delibes – Lakme – ‘Flower Duet’ (duration – 59 seconds) 4. Verdi – Rigoletto – ‘La Donna é Mobile’ (duration – 60 seconds) 5. Mozart – The Marriage of Figaro – ‘Overture’ (duration – 45 seconds) 6. Strauss – ‘Radetsky March’ (duration – 58 seconds) |
