Default the big cheese on toast debate ...

when doing cheese on toast, do you, like me, once you've browned one side, turn it over, and very lightly brown the other side before adding the grated cheese, or do you just toast the one side, then flip it over and add the cheese?. i used to do this, but felt i was'nt getting the full cheese on toast expirience, its much better once you've browned one side, to flip it over and let the bread get 30 seconds grilling time, and then add the grated cheese. ( but beware, unless timed to perfection, this may overburn, causing excessive blackening of the edges).

what say you?

I like to very lightly brown the other side. It just gives it that extra 'crunch' rather than squidgey cheese.

(Just realised I'm the only one who answered this seriously, how embarassing).

I toast one side first untill it's a nice toasted color and i then take it out of the oven.

Once the toast is out of the oven, i then place all my cheese on the non-toasted side before putting it back into the grill for the cheese to melt.

Once it's melted and looks really 'cheesey' i then turn the grill off and take the toast out.

Onto a plate it goes and then i eat it.

Theres a fine art to making cheese on toast.... I toast one side, then butter the non toasted side, then put sliced mature cheddar on the top and wack it under the grill until it starts to bubble but not so much that the cheese browns.

If I'm feeling that it needs a little something extra I put a slice of ham under the cheese.

I dont like the toast crunchy
