I see it as he is having a pop at the whole manufacturing of Cowell's X-Factor, rather than at individuals, although he definitely is at some (such as Simon and Tulisa). Stating they are interested in money/fame rather than artistic input and values.

He's a bigger name than Joe & Alexandra's career has pretty much died even though he acknowledges that's not really her fault.
