Default New families to move into Corrie after set move?

CORRIE bosses are planning to bring in a host of new characters when the soap moves to a new £30million set in Salford next year.

Cast members have been told new families – who will live in two nearby streets – are to join Weatherfield.

The production team hopes it will give viewers more storylines to get their teeth into.

A show source revealed: “The producers plan to bring Rosamund Street and Viaduct Street into things a bit more.

“Those streets have always been on the outskirts – people are referred to as coming from there but you never see much of them.

“Now they are going to become home for a lot of new faces who will hopefully be just as popular with viewers as the rest of the cast.

“The feeling is that we need fresh characters to spin the action about.”

The ITV show’s relocation involves moving the Corrie set from central Manchester to a new facility near Salford’s MediaCity.

The move was expected to be completed next spring but has been delayed by up to six months because of construction problems.

It is thought the steel frame for the base began to move as contractors poured in the concrete.

But ITV insisted there would only be a “slight” hold-up, adding: “Construction of the main building and the Coronation Street lot continues uninterrupted, as does production.”

That's an interesting new venture, which I'm hoping to see continue.

There's plenty of characters as it is though!

Yes, but it's nice to have fresh blood, which all the other soaps tend to be lacking in. I only dip in and out of Corrie but I'll tune in for a bit to see how the new family fits in and all.

It also adds to the realism a bit too, for example, there's a whole street behind Coronation Street, called Mawdsley Street, only very rarely do we see anyone from that street
