Default Arctic Ice shrinks 18% in a year

This was on Ch4News tonight
they say in 10 or 20 years most Ice could go.

"Our response [so far] has not been alarm, or panic, or a sense of emergency. It has been: ‘Let’s go up there and drill for oil’. There is no more perfect indictment of our failure to get to grips with the greatest problem we’ve ever faced,' says author and environmental campaigner Bill McKibben."

We have only been capable of monitoring the size of the icecaps properly for 33 years (since the advent of satellite radar) its a bit too soon to panic but the headline "the fluctuation in the earths temprature is normal" isnt very exciting so its not gong to get said is it?

It seems to me that the worlds really not all that big, and when you think of all the car journeys, air flights, power stations etc that must be churning out co2 day in day out, it's doesn't seem surprising really that global warming is happening and the arctic ice is melting.
