A woman had to be rescued by firefighters after falling asleep in the toilets of a BHS store just before it had closed for the evening.



While there's no better place for a shopaholic to spend the night than in a department store, it helps when you can leave when you want.

The 39-year-old fell asleep in the toilets of a BHS store in Broad Street, Reading, and awoke to find herself locked in after it closed at 6pm on Saturday.

She then suffered the embarrassment of having to be rescued by fire crews via a first-floor window after failing to find an emergency exit.

The woman managed to grab the attention of a passer-by, who notified police, by calling for help from an upper floor window.

Fire crews were able to reach the relieved woman from her unusual predicament at around 9.15pm using an aerial platform, spending 30 minutes at the scene.

Firefighters said she was upset but not unwell following her ordeal. She was later taken home by police.
