Lightbulb High Wycombe sex abuse inquiry leads to charges

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...herts-20405716

Quote:
Suspected members of a sex abuse gang have been arrested in a series of raids in Buckinghamshire.

Thames Valley Police said a girl claimed she had been abused between 2007 and 2012 and they believed there may be other victims.

Officers made the arrests in High Wycombe, targeting people suspected of child exploitation.

The eight men, aged between 20 and 28, are being held over "serious" sexual abuse, the force said.

Police began an investigation in December last year, uncovering allegations dating back to 2007, when the alleged victim was aged 12, a force spokesman said.
Jeez ..... not another "Rochdale" .....

Well that news item didn't explain much....
Why are the police acting surprised?
If these children are from local authority care homes then abuse against them has been known for years imo.
It's been hushed up either because they don't have the resources to investigate, there is a general mistrust of the police or the police are afraid of repercussions from communities or the media.
