EastEnders has been pretty average since the end of 2007 (after the Christmas Day episode) but I agree that these past two years have been particularly bad. The last time there was any real buzz around the show was around early 2010 with all the Archie stuff - people have just dropped off since the live (unsurprisingly) to what we have now.

Edit - only 6.8 million tuned into EE on Friday (as opposed to Emmerdale's 7.4m and Corrie's 8.8m). Says something about the general conscientious on the show right now.

I think the show's just dying out as all of the legendary characters have left/died and they've not created any newer characters good enough to take their place so the show is stagnant.

Bringing characters like Sharon back simply to shag Jack is not a good move neither.

Yeah I agree, really. Corrie's a really good example of a show that has a well-established cast, some of whom have been present since the show's inception. The only real "legendary" characters we have now are Dot (who is becoming increasingly irrelevant), Phil (completely wasted) and Sharon (who's in bed with Jack and popping pills). The fact that three-quarters of the cast are all deadwood who just need to go doesn't exactly aid the situation either.

I just think they need to bring in an entire cast of new characters - and properly, not having them all leave and replaced by crap within a month (in the case of 2006, which was a pretty disastrous year for the show). We haven't really had any strong new characters since Ronnie and Roxy of 2007 - and even they have been turned crap in recent years.

Only 6.4m for EE last night, Emmerdale 1.2m ahead.

Absolutely abysmal for a freezing night in early December. I see the usual lot on DS are making excuses for this crap rating.

None of the brothers would have exciting reasons to shag Kat - Max has a secret coming up, (which would've been this) Derek has what I put in spoiler tags and if Jack did it then his totally pointless, boring as brick character would've carried out his recurring theme of going round having random sex with different female characters.

It's Derek. Him and Kat always stare at each other and flirt quite a lot. I've noticed this for ages.

As I said, if it's any of the brothers, it would be so predictable. Max and Derek both have a secret and Jack is only really on the show to impregnate women, it would seem.

I'm not doubting it's Derek [it may well be (and if it is that would be so predictable and obvious) and I've noticed your observations as well] but I'm just saying that it's a bad storyline in the sense that all of this is predictable (i.e. two brothers have a secret and the other just gets women pregnant) and contrived.
