I use Gimp it free and cross platform (i.e. it works in MS Windows, OSX, Linux and Solaris). Better than that it is free and easy to setup.

I use Fireworks now, I've used others before that though. I like Fireworks cos I can do decent graphics with that.

Out of the programs i've used..i find the easiest (for me) is paintshop pro.

I'm using paintshop pro X right now, tis the best one i've used sofar.. although psp 6 (i think it was) included Jasc Animation Shop, which I used happily for quite a while. I used to use Gimp before paintshop pro.
