Default Jade blamed for falling BB ratings

Quote:
Jade Goody's entrance back into the Big Brother house has been cited as the reason for the show's falling ratings.

The launch show last Wednesday had viewing figures of 7.1 million, but by last night figures had seen a drop of over half at 3.2 million.

According to The Daily Mail some viewers have complained that bringing Jade Goody back into the house has been a huge mistake on the part of Channel 4.

Her arrival resulted in two of the show's most interesting contestants - Donny Tourette and Ken Russell - leaving the house.

However, Channel 4 has defended itself over the ratings. A spokesman said: "After five days, the average for this series is 4.7 million. Last year's series average was 4.8 million, so there is barely any difference.

"There is still interest in the show and it is doing as well as the last series."

I've heard that the person at Endemol who was responsible for the idea of bringing jade back has been sacked, because viewing figures have gone down so much.

Wow that's harsh, surely that person would have ran the idea past management or something? Management would have approved it, and bobs your uncle. It's harsh to fire him, if the idea was discussed and decided upon by many people.

Really? Isn't that a bit harsh? If that's a reason to be sacked then person in charge of the whole 'Golden Housemate' and 'Vote a housemate back' thing should have been sacked too. After all that speculation.

I agree, it's a bit harsh, but that's what they said on Radio 2 this afternoon.

Although it certainly was a pathetic idea to bring the Goody clan in.

Celebrity Big Brother 5 recorded 3.6m viewers last night and is currently averaging 0.02m more than last year’s record breaking series.

Despite tough competition from Waking the Dead on BBC One (8.6m) and Soapstar Superstar on ITV1 (5.2m), Celebrity Big Brother still managed to find 3.6m in the ratings.

The figures keep it in line with last year’s series. Up to this point CBB4 had an average ratings of 4.35m, compared to the 4.37m CBB5 has achieved so far.

However, tonights show will have to find at least 4.2m viewers to keep the lead, an extra 600,000 viewers. Ratings have improved by about 800,000 since Saturday.

Meanwhile, last night’s episode of Soapstar Superstar was 800,000 viewers down on its performance this time last year, and its currently averaging 1.4m viewers less than the first series to this point.

I don't think its because Jade is back, its the fact that her whole family came. If they had brought ONLY Jade, I don't think there would be a problem. Seriously though, it just doesn't make sense to bring the others and then on top of that have a visit from her grandparents. Jade is one of my favorites, but she should have just been a regular housemate like everyone else and the producers should not have made the show revolve around her and her family. I still cannot see the logic behind that.

It's not Jade's fault, its the producers.

The concept of bringing anyone back was fairly high risk so soon after the Nikky fiasco. It seems like an unnecessary decision with much at stake.

The only reason I have watched slightly less this year was because of the snoring !!

Now watch two ex-housemates walk through the door as replacements...

I sure hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
