Default Footballers Salary (Serious debate)

So do you think footballers should be earning more than a brain surgeon or a doctor.? Are they worth every penny ?
Whats your opinions. I personally think the money they earn for kicking a ball around is an absolute insult to people who have studied for years and years to obtain a career. e.g. vets, doctors.police etc..

I think the salary footballers are getting these days is extortionate! Especially when you look at what they do for society (A bit of entertainment) compared to what doctors, surgeons, teachers, lawyers do for society!
It'd ridiculous to say they earn that much - and I am not denying it takes some skill to kick a bit of pig skin around some grass - but in all honesty, they don't work hard enough to earn over £1m each week like some of them are getting.

I think its absolulutly ridiculous, like Lauren said, why should they be paid more than doctors, sugeons, vets, teachers, Lawyers, Police. People who have a job with helps the community. Footballers are paid too mch for having a talent with a ball. Big deal??

It's market forces. They get paid what they get paid because of the number of people that watch football, and the amount of money clubs have to spend.

Similar to the reasons pop stars and movie stars get paid so much.

So all we need to do is boycott football? Hmm... easily done!

But yeah, it's unfortunate that because so many people watch the game, they get that much money for it when they're really not doing much in society.

The money footballers earn these days is a joke, they train 3 hours a day maximum and not every day, they then play for 90 minutes at the weekend and then maybe and mid-week game which is nothing when you compare them to someone who works 9-5 all week or even people that have to work horrible shifts and also most players end up getting injured which can mean their out of action for a long period of time, take Michael Owen for example he hasn't played one minute of premiership football this season after getting badly injured at the world cup so for just sitting around at home doing nothing he still gets his full pay, don't get me wrong there are some very talented players about no doubt about that but yeah overall i think footballers get paid way too much for such little work.

i think its stupid the amount that footballers are paid its way too much for kicking a ball around even though i love football the wages are too high people who help others like vets and doctors should earn way more than just providing entertainment for 90 minutes

Whilst I agree that doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers etc should be paid more it's all about supply and demand with football, the higher league clubs make an awful lot of money through tv, merchandise, sponsorship and revenue from ticket sales from these players so they deserve their share of the money because of the income they are generating but sometimes they get paid too much by clubs gambling on premiership survival/getting into the top 6/winning cups by paying out big transfer fee's and wages and when it doesnt come off they are in debt so it's all about striking a balance for me.

For those clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea who do make a huge profit year on year and can sustain the high wages they may aswell do it or you're just left with money sitting in the bank and let's face it those sides are always going to be doing well so they need to pay the high wages to get the best players. The other issue is lowering ticket/merchandise prices for me as some fans are being priced out of going to the games even at a lower level.

The amount of money footballers get today is ridiculous!
They get thousands, maybe millions of pounds for just kicking a ball around
When doctors, sergens and nurses get much less when they are saving lives

Why does no-one complain about the amount film stars, pop stars etc. get paid? Or the amount we all spend on useless stuff.

I think to be in the public eye like they are, performing in front of a global audience week in week out (and we're not talking thousands but millions), i fully believe that some of the players deserve there wages.

I'm not so sure about people getting £100,000pw but if i was them i wouldn't turn it down either.

I think it is obsecene the amount of money some of them earn. That said I wish it were me, then I wouldnt think it was so bad.

I think that something to remember is they have very limited career spans and their career can end in a heart beat with an injury so they only earn these sums of momey for a short time, where as we have many years of a career so maybe the salary reflects the short career

It's not the money they make for themselves; its the money they make for other people ie. their agents, their clubs, their sponsors et al that determine their salaries. It IS ridiculous but wasn't David Beckhams number 23 shirt worth millions to Real Madrid. Thus, the profit filters down to Beckham himself. It's market forces, supply and demand and what not.

They are overpaid, but if they can get it then good for them.. I know I would take that wage if I could get it!! It comes down to fans and the money they spend out on football.. and its advertising that pays too.. eg, coke and david beckhem, skechers & christina aguilera.. I dont think NHS wages can be compared to footballers wages cos footballers wages aren't paid from the governement..

The ones who earn way over the top are high up politians and fat cats.. One of the directors of my company got almost £500,000 just for his annual bonus!!
