I live in what is described to a 'village in a city' with the nightlife of Dalston and Shoreditch like 10/15 minutes away
![]() My 'Village' - ![]() ![]() ![]() Dalston - Rudimental are from my area and they decided to use this peace mural for their album cover in Dalston. Spoiler: Roof top cinema/park/bar at night ![]() Dalston is the birthplace of Alan Spenner, bassist with ABC, Roxy Music, The Grease Band and Joe Cocker. It was also home to Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in the 1980's. Dalston was the setting of the third series of the aforementioned comedy The Mighty Boosh, with Noel Fielding still living there to this day. It used to be a tad on the rough side to say the least, but is now probably one of London’s coolest spot (The Mighty Boosh’s Vince Noir says so, so it must be true). Dalston is also home to what Vice Magazine call the 'London's Celebrity Hipster Elite.' Mainly this seems to be down to Cara Delevingne, Harry Styles, Rita Ora, Steve Jones, Miquita Oliver and Nick Grimshaw. Who tend to go to Dalston's clubs quite regularly, their favourite is called 'Birthday's'

My borough is one of the poorest boroughs in the whole of the UK but because of regeneration projects there's pockets of rich areas like Canary Wharf, so it's like living in two worlds. Also the original big brother house is a 15 minute walk from my house
![]() Spoiler: Majority of these are 1-2 miles from my house. The contrast is unreal |

They started demolishing it in April though. Are they just doing it bit by bit over a long period of time? I know it's quite a huge complex.
And why is The Gaylord iconic? Is it because Cliff Richard etc dine there? ![]() Last edited by Mrluvaluva; 03-10-2013 at 09:43 PM. |

I had read it started in April?
http://www.wharf.co.uk/2013/04/demol...robin-hoo.html I lived on the Isle of Dogs for about 10 years (until a few years ago) so I recognise a lot of places, like the old swimming baths at Poplar, and The Gaylord at Island Gardens etc. Last edited by Mrluvaluva; 03-10-2013 at 09:55 PM. |

![]() They're breaking down so many homes including mine and replacing them with those ugly things ![]() And wow that's so cool you used to live here ![]() Last edited by Me. I Am Salman; 03-10-2013 at 10:04 PM. |

If I posted pics of my hometown it would be trains trains trains and more trains. I'm serious, I live nearby a train station and traintracks, There's train horn sounds all the time.

My town is offensively small. There's only 332 people and there are no stores or traffic lights. There are plenty of moose and trees, however. It's basically cut off from the rest of civilization because to get to the nearest large town you have to go through about 100 miles of practically uninhabited forest.
![]() Thank god I'm leaving this place in a few months and moving to the big city (big for the state of Maine, anyway)... ![]() Last edited by swinearefine; 03-10-2013 at 11:15 PM. |
