I live in what is described to a 'village in a city' with the nightlife of Dalston and Shoreditch like 10/15 minutes away

My 'Village' -

Dalston -

Rudimental are from my area and they decided to use this peace mural for their album cover in Dalston.
Spoiler:

Roof top cinema/park/bar at night

Dalston is the birthplace of Alan Spenner, bassist with ABC, Roxy Music, The Grease Band and Joe Cocker. It was also home to Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in the 1980's. Dalston was the setting of the third series of the aforementioned comedy The Mighty Boosh, with Noel Fielding still living there to this day. It used to be a tad on the rough side to say the least, but is now probably one of London’s coolest spot (The Mighty Boosh’s Vince Noir says so, so it must be true). Dalston is also home to what Vice Magazine call the 'London's Celebrity Hipster Elite.' Mainly this seems to be down to Cara Delevingne, Harry Styles, Rita Ora, Steve Jones, Miquita Oliver and Nick Grimshaw. Who tend to go to Dalston's clubs quite regularly, their favourite is called 'Birthday's'

My borough is one of the poorest boroughs in the whole of the UK but because of regeneration projects there's pockets of rich areas like Canary Wharf, so it's like living in two worlds. Also the original big brother house is a 15 minute walk from my house

Spoiler:

Canary Wharf

Robin Hood Gardens, a lot of random historians or whatever are campaigning for it to stay but one of my friends that lives there says everyone that lives in it wants it broken down lmao

Some famous public baths thing that closed decades ago

Some place where boxing events/small concerts/parties are held, it used to be a massive Mecca bingo before

Victoria Park

The iconic Gaylord

Town hall/gym/other irrelevant buildings

Ragged School Museum from like the Victoria era ;o

Rich people live here

Poor people live here

Where the old BB house was. No one comes here because it's rapey

Majority of these are 1-2 miles from my house. The contrast is unreal

They started demolishing it in April though. Are they just doing it bit by bit over a long period of time? I know it's quite a huge complex.

And why is The Gaylord iconic? Is it because Cliff Richard etc dine there?

I had read it started in April?

http://www.wharf.co.uk/2013/04/demol...robin-hoo.html

I lived on the Isle of Dogs for about 10 years (until a few years ago) so I recognise a lot of places, like the old swimming baths at Poplar, and The Gaylord at Island Gardens etc.

well maybe they've done something but it's not really visible right now. I don't go round Robin Hood Gardens much so I dunno a lot about it tbh. But omg the image in the link you posted

They're breaking down so many homes including mine and replacing them with those ugly things it's perfectly fine how it is

And wow that's so cool you used to live here I have my whole life

I used to live off Manchester Road. Opposite Pier Street where the main entrance to Mudchute Farm is. And before that off Westferry Road. They will not rest until they have knocked down all the older buildings there and replaced them with more modern ones.

My town is offensively small. There's only 332 people and there are no stores or traffic lights. There are plenty of moose and trees, however. It's basically cut off from the rest of civilization because to get to the nearest large town you have to go through about 100 miles of practically uninhabited forest.

Thank god I'm leaving this place in a few months and moving to the big city (big for the state of Maine, anyway)...
