A lovely jingly, optimistic sounding Scottish post punk band. Rip It Up is pretty much the quintessential post punk song. It's such a fantastic tune. There is an awesome book chronicling the history and recording of Post Punk and the characters behind it also called Rip It Up, by Simon Reynolds. Well worth checking out if good music books are your thing.

The great rock and roll swindle is the story of the Sex pistols, and Breaking glass is Hazel Oconnors.

Atmosphere is my all time favorite song [along with Home by Depeche and Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead], and one of the few that genuinely scares the shit out of me.
Also they kind of grew far beyond post punk but of course New Order are the business as well. True Faith, Regret, Age Of Consent, Temptation ... Last edited by Stu; 24-10-2013 at 11:47 PM. |

I got a box set of pretty much everything Joy Division recorded off amazon for like 17 quid. 4 discs and a chunky booklet that I can't be assed to read ![]() |

The latter half of New Order's discography is poor to be fair. I had Republic on in the background the other day and beyond Regret it was mostly awful.
Peter Hook is clearly a knob as well. I met him and I was waiting for him to start asking me to part with my money to hear some old road stories of Ian Curtis going mental. |

![]() Seeing them live again in two weeks up in Dublin. They really have the most amazing back catalogue. Every album from Black Celebration on has been full of great tracks from start to finish and has a distinct sound. I can definitely see how they would work for people as a greatest hits band - just like I can with The Cure - but it's a shame so many people only know Personal Jesus, ETS etc. |

Classic Did you ever hear that hand that rocks the cradle song? Someone told me it was about touching kids so I always skip that now when I listen to the first album! ![]() |
